I don't know if you know it or not, but I found a solution how to transfrom a mission made with FRED2_Open to the orignal .fs2 file.

1. Use wordpad, and set mission flags(+Flags in Mission info stage) to 0:
2. CTRL-H: Seek 'Stay Near' and change it to 'None'
Stay in CTRL-H and Seek +Flags2 and change it to ';'

If you do everything fine, you can load the mission in original FRED.

Anybody could use this? Or didn't know?

I've been wondering about adding a Save As FS2 Format to fred2_open.  It would just not save the new stuff.  It might also be able to save as FS1 format, though that would require a bit more research.

Okay then - Hippo, do you want to look through FS1 and FS2 mission files and compare the differences?

The XSTR format is one of them, and then there's $Message versus $MessageNew... but aside from that, I don't think there are many differences at all.

I could get a mission to FS1 (minus sexps) by just copying the ships and editing the weapons... But a save asoption for Fred 1 and 2 to save as the opposite...
