Greetings, MODders!    I've searched around and can't find any answers to my problem, so here goes:

I want to use a different .ani for the impact explosion on a beam weapon I am making, but anything other than ExpMissileHit1 won't seem to show up.  In the course of testing I have exported ExpMissileHit1.ani to my effects folder and renamed it, and then changed the table entry to reflect the new name, but even then it wouldn't work!

the quick solution would just be to rename it to ExpMissileHit1.ani and dump it in \effects\ you also would have to make expmissilehit1_1 and 1_2 for different size beams

Ok, I have no idea what I'm doing I guess, but my fireball.tbl doesn't seem to have any info regarding ExpMissileHit1 in it anywhere, or any hint of what I might put in as an alternative for it, nor do I know what $LOD means.    

Btw, I still want to keep ExpMissleHit1 as it is, since it is used in so many other weapons.

Wait, I've found it!  The table I wanted was actually weapons_expl.tbl.  Hopefully this will do it.

The weaponexplosion table table can only have 4 entry's, and do what vader_1 said or make the lod 1, also make sure you added the name in the weopons table, at the impact explosion line, oh and don't add it in the fireball table, that's the table for the ship explosion's and the warp in and warp out effect, use the weaponexplosion table.

if you tryt it al and it stil not working send me the table an the ani and i'l fix it for ya

Thank you Setekh.   Sesquipedalian is my favorite word.

The full extent of this mod is merely the one beam.  My ususal practice is to stand reverent before the modders and download anything that looks useful for my missions.  I have not, however been able to find a weapon of the sort I need for the last mission of the campaign I'm working on, and thus have had to undertake it myself.

The weapon itself is theoretically not a beam at all, but making it out of a beam seemed the easiest way.  The nature of the weapon demands a different impact .ani for it to make it's visual effect properly.

Btw, I am having another problem with it.  I posted a different topic for it, if anyone could help me there...
