It's about time someone made some uglies of Freespace fighters, so here you go. For those of you who don't know, Uglies are fighters made from scraps of debris and other fighters welded together and jerry-rigged into working condition. It's been common practice in Star Wars fiction for a while now, with TIE-Wings and Y-fighters and such.

UTF Comanche space superiority fighter

UTF Seminole interceptor

UTF Cherokee assault fighter

UTB Navajo strike bomber

UTB Yurok heavy bomber

Those are the LOD1s, no submodels yet. What do you think? And here's the game: name the components used in each ship. Big grin

Actually, I think they look very good(though I'd still work on the first two). One of those models looks more terran than some of the [V] fighters toghether.

Just one thing: they should either be grey or brown - not both.

Plus lack of availability. If you're a pirate/renegade/good-cop-gone-bad, you're probably Terran.

Well, they're all using the default textures at the moment, so a few mismatched colors are bound to happen. I actually like the patchwork colors, it's part of the whole Ugly theme, but some texture editing to add warning stripes, metal patches, welds and duct tape would be wecome.

The reason there are no Vasudan bits and pieces are because of A) technological differences pirates and scavengers have no hope of overcoming and B) most of these scraps would have been from GTVA-NTF battles.

Hehe... hmm...

Comanche: Body of a Loki with a Myrmidon missile pod slapped on the left, engines of a Valkyrie, nose of a Centaur.

Seminole: Body of a Valkyrie with the right wing of an Athena, engines of a Loki, nose of a Hercules.

Cherokee: Body of a Hercules with the right missile pod of a Medusa, nose of a Valkyrie.

Navajo: Body of a Zeus with a Medusa engine block stuck on the left and a Zeus engine block stuck out of place on the right, nose of an Athena (in the wrong place), unidentified forward gun mount.

Yurok: Unidentified body and nose, engine of an Ursa (rotated 90 degrees), left missile pod of a Medusa, right gun turret of an Ursa.

This was all from memory... now to research the so I can fill in the unidentifieds. Big grin

The Yurok's nose and body are from the Zeus.

My god.. bastard children. Big grin

Only thing negative is that a lot of the mixed pieces look out of proportion, even for uglies. I think it has to do with the cockpits.

I personally would have preferred at least a few symmetrical designs, but the concept's good, and the implementation's not too shabby

The best part about Uglies is their design peculiarities. For example, if you turn that Cherokee too hard, chunks of it might fly off. Big grin

Too bad that can't be modeled in FS, but I'm sure that flying these babies will be veee-eee-eery interesting.

He's referring to the chunks flying off the ship he was joking about I believe.

Anyways, hurray for the mutant ships! XD I like these things. That Navajo is one freaky ass bomber. Wonder how it flys.
