Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
As the title says, this is a Jugger. It is also my first ship that is designed for the FS Universe. Meaning that I put it in the plot. The ship is heavily based on a ship from another game though but that just means that I loved the design.

This is the GTVA Titan (PLEASE for all the good of modders out there! If the name was taken TELL ME!). I'm not a person to make an all new Post-Capella story so I'll allow the model to be used in mods when its done. The Titan's story as follows:

GTVA command wanted a new juggernaut to protect their systems against any future threats. However the Colossus projects were rejected due to their immense cost and time to construct. Several corporations banded together to design the new ship. The result was the Titan.

The Titan is larger than the Colossus at 6.46km but has less than HALF the mass. This is due to the fact that this ship isn't a large solid single object rather it is a collection of smaller specialized systems. For example, the front section of the ship is simply a holding structure littered with dozens of capsules holding individual power cells, cooling systems, targeting devices, and the weapons systems. This configuration allows manufacturers to easily replace components that were to be destroyed. This greatly cut down maintenance costs. Also, because of the smaller mass, the crew requirement is less than half of the Colossus. The total armament of the Titan is appproximately 25% greater than the Colossus however the damage potential is 65% greater due to the greater amount of beam cannons. The unusual ring structure mounted behind the ship is the Titan's Absolute Defence. The ring structure houses dozens of flak, laser, and beam turrets for dealing with fighters and bombers in all directions, however this structure is somewhat weak.
Two Titans were constructed at the same time and deployed.

I haven't thought of everything on this ship yet and I haven't yet added any turrets. The poly count is unusually low (compared to the Tornado model I made) at 10942 polies. So tell me, how is it? I know it looks a little weak...

I'm using alot of the Colossus' skin as well as one of my own. The white parts aren't supposed to be there, perhaps the specular is too much. But I can live with this. It is based on a dreadnought from Sword of The Stars. Btw, in that game the giant ring structures were their way of going into hyperspace but that isn't needed in FS2 so I made it a defence ring.

Here is the original i based of of.

The only Titan I know of is the Titan node-blockade-device from Inferno, but I'm not sure they use that anymore.

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
You can give it name which has been already chosen. There are several ships with the same name and nobody cares (or at least i haven't noticed :p ). Titan is actually good name for that ship.
If in your opinion there's no difference beetwen "Master Game" and "Game Master", I can only feel for you.

Nice adaptation of a cool looking ship.

Although I'm not fond of the hoop (just a personal bias, you are of course free to include it), it seems incongruous against the rest of the ship's design. It would make for an awesome defence ring for the engines, however.

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
Thats the purpose really. It gives full coverage of nearly the entire body so I left the ring in.

"Defense Ring?"  D'oh!

Now you know the reason for all the questions I just asked about docking...

You still can't guess WHAT my ring is made out of though.  :P

Kudos on the Titan... I Knew what it was based off of, but forgot the game source, great translation!

First of her class, may she sail long and proud.

Actually it would be cool if he we had a HLP: "Order of Battle" constructed that lists all of our "Official" modded ships. Ie we can have a dozen Orions of different designations in personal universes, but we all know which ones are considered in the FS2 GTVA fleet. (like the original and the MKII).

While no name is ever truly exclusive, in order to make the list when there ar multiple possibilities the users can VOTE on which one makes the list!!!  ;7 This could be more exciting than the next Pres race!

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
Vengence, you could also downsize this thing considerably and reskin it, to become a loadout room animation for a ship primary gun.  Yes, it looks even more like a gun that the Colossus, but less like a person-carried weapon.

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
:wtf: Sorry man, its a ship... However ::)  I can make a weapon for the tech room separately so there is no need to improvise a 6+km warship into a gun mount. Which reminds me of something else... but I will talk about that later. Here and now is not the right place.

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
So what kind (and how many) guns would it have?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
I haven't finalized it but it has quite a bit more than the Colossus has. But remember, the Titan has 50% of the Big C's health, but 65% more firepower. Meaning in a direct fight the Big C will loose but severely damage the Titan. But considering that there are at least 2 Titans for every Colossus, then the Big C doesn't stand a chance of winning unless it has support. But the Big C is dead (But not it's memories :() so there really isn't any need to explain.

Big C-
12 Beams
12 Missile
15 Flak
45 Laser

Titan-
25 Beams
8 Missile
8 Flak (However these are upgraded long range versions)
60 Laser (mostly mounted on the forward capsules)

I'm considering adding Torpedo launchers ;)

Damn Aldo... At first I was like where the hell is the smilely?

Then I realised by extrapolation you figured it out... Anus - something - something else = defense ring...

Your a bloddy genius you know that!

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
I think it'd be better suited as a large super-destroyer, somewhere in between Lucifer and Colossus size, still, it's up to you.  I like the idea of the defense ring with long range flak, someone should have thought of that ages ago.  Very nice for your first Freespace design.

This thread so needs the word '*****' at the end of the title ;)

Looking nice, though I'll agree that the Ring looks 'odd', but it does on the original drawing as well, so it really boils down to personal taste :)

So what does it use? Aleous's?  ;7

Well, technically its mass is probably around that of a super-destroyer considering most of the thing is hollow.

I missed this part.

I didn't know the Aleous used torpedos. Adding torps would make some things interesting against other ships. LOL I just remembered that I used a helios on a squad of Maras once and they all were incinerated at once! Kinda stupid huh? Overkill.

Re: Its a Juggernaut! (New Model)
I think he means it would fire Aeoluses.

But anyhoo, excellent design, even if it is a bit plagiaristic as it stands. Still, whatever you do, don't lose the ring. The engine-ring makes it unique, and is therefore the defining characteristic of the ship. I've always said that every good ship should be immediately identifiable from silhouette via a defining shape, and that ring is most certainly defining.
