Not sure if this belongs here or in the mod page. I'm guesing here cause it deals with art. You can move it where it belongs if needed.
Can anyone that makes real life model kits (especially planes and tanks) scan the decal sheet? I've gotten some ideas for adding extra details we all could use. Like nose arts, warning labels, rescue banners...etc I've gotten just a few off the net but most of the pics are too blurry to be used on meshes.

I got some photos at the local airfirled the other day when they had the old ww2 planes out etc. Maybe you'd like some of them?

He means the transfers that you put onto plastic air-craft kits, you know, the ones that you soak in water, attempt to lift with tweezers, rip, and end up having to 'reassamble' the two halves on the model

You all do it funny, then. AFAI have done, you wet the cut the outline of the decal out, soak it in water until the decal is loose, and then put the entire paper-backed thing on the model, and with a little pressure, press the paper backing aside, and the decal is there, in one piece.

Yes they have some sort of adhesive... Flipside... be more gentle to the decals, let them soak a bit longer and use an old brush rather than tweezers Like this Dekker: (this ones actually good, the two logos will be seen on some of my models latter on) HAHAHA, How about these plastered over a ship

It's a lot of time since I made a model, so I don't have any decal sheet. However, I can find some nose arts on some airplanes magazines. Do you think they would be good? If yes, I'll scan something.

Nose arts great, i dunno if scanning the model will help due to the curvature, but give it a try.
Thanks Dekker for the first one that one can be used, (the raf might be useful for a starlancer mod :-p)
BTW i just thought of this... these could also be useful for FS2's insignia decals too.

I have temporary problems with the scanner, but don't worry, I will have them resolved in no time. Since you are making also squadron insignias, I have some stickers with the insignias of some Italian Air Force squadrons. I can scan these, too, so you can adapt them (like I have done for "Steadfast" ).

Sorry for the double post... Scooby, I'm sorry, but most of the nose arts that I found were in B&W or too small to be scanned. I've scanned only a few decent nose arts (WARNING! May be 56k unfriendly!): An Italian nose art of WWII, seen on the Russian front A RAF inisgnia An Italian WWII insignia usually applied on torpedo bombers Another Italian WWII torpedo bomber insignia English nose art applied on a Spitfire German nose art applied on a Bf-109 Insignia of a Washington ANG squadron Nose art on a B-17 used in Italy Nose art on a P-38 used in Italy Nose art applied on James Doolittle's B-25 for the Tokyo Raid If you want also some Italian Air Force logos, just tell me. EDIT: Whew! I thought the images were much smaller! Well, I'm sorry...

Urgh,I need five mins to load the page! Dekker:Starlancer, huh?I think there were no Italian squads called Hornets or Stingers(at least Calabroni and Pungiglioni), no matter if a German squad was called Vampires(the vampire was one of the first jets Great Britain had after the Gloster Gladiator if I remember well...). DySkO:the last one is good

the vampire was one of the first jets Great Britain had after the Gloster Gladiator if I remember well...
Well... The Gloster Gladiator wasn't a jet... It was a biplane that entered service before WWII and it can be compared to our FIAT CR.42 (take a look at http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/types/uk/gloster/gladiator/gladiator.htm). Maybe you are talking about the Gloster Meteor... ( http://www.aviationmuseum.com.au/aircraft/Meteor.cfm) And yes, the deHavilland Vampire was the first English operational jet after the Gloster Meteor. It even served with Italian Air Force. the last one is good An Italian historical planes magazine made a small section about American nose arts of WWII, and they are like the last one I posted. the link is http://www.aereinellastoria.it/noseart.htm . Scooby, you shouldn't find too difficult to visit that link, since it's quite intuitive even if only in Italian. However, I don't think you'll find those nose arts useful, since most of them are only partial and the curvature is really evident for some nose arts.

Oh I confused the Meteor with the Gladiator! Dammit,I must re-read all my books about airplanes! (maybe I confused the G. for the M. because of the Fairey Swordfish, that other torpedo launcher biplane)
