if you use only the vertex buffer you will have a lot of duplicate points, and I want to use the BSP tree for rendering, we need it for proper transparency effects, and it would be nice if we could get everything else to draw front to back. not to mention that my idea for built in detail volumes requires at least some use of a dynamic index buffer.
