Help need 3dsmax pofexport prob...
Hi all first thing i want to say is im french sometime my english is wrong.

Ok im actualy trying to creat a new fury for TBP, i use 3dsmax 5 its my first try to convert a ship for fs2oen
im new with moding.

ship got for now 3840 face i know for a fighter is high but i will optimised some more later i hope to many face dont cause trouble i dont have texture ship with texporter i have only use uvwmap i hope this dont cause problemes with export to.

in game external view from ship stay to far. (something about bouding box but uhm).
i can try anyway in max to make SPECULAR on my ship & ENV MAP for reflextion on ship, nothing work absolutly nothing.
i have try same on a simple sphere and directly export same problemes cant have specular.

finaly i dont know if is a problemes from pofexp or if i need do some spécial modeling thing for have a proper exported ship.

i have read many part of pofexp for max .4 .5 .6 topic.  Pple talk about some prob but nothing is correctly explain about how to make specular on ship & else thing i ask here.

well if some can help me really tks i work actualy on ship but im stoped becose this all thing.

Hi again

need to know how i have make my fury problemes can come from modeling step's.

first ugly modeling more 10k face after got many optimisation face droped to 3840.
after i have select face and detach part where need new uvwmap and material.
after i have Collapse-To all uvwmap to all object for hold map in place when
i attach again object at end.

auto smooth from edit mesh at all object before attach it.

i got finaly a Multi/sub-Object in material editor.

i hope this way to make a ship for FS2 dont cause problemes with my specular
and else when i export ship with POfexp.

after 2 week modeling can finaly try this ship in game from

1 mesh object (fighter) with 10 texture maps is not good. 3-4k poly is ok
If possible put all 10 textures into 1 map

To control specular you have to use another texture map eg.
PANELS.dds (colour) DXT1
PANELS-shine.dds (for specular DTX1)  (specular and environmental use DXT5 instead)
PANELS-glow.dds (for glow map) DXT1

For specular map - black is no shine, white is full shine, and you can use colour as well.

For the environmental map you modify the alpha of PANELS-shine.dds -use DXT5 when saving

Realy realy tks for this help now many way is clear.

but im carefull noob with texporter and DXT converting maps, so why i dont want put for now all in one map.
I mean have to put in every material a new exemple-shine for every new material where is a new map too.

oki i supose map is going here correct me i do any error.

PANELS.dds (colour) DXT1 > in diffuse slot
PANELS-shine.dds (for specular DTX1) > in specular (color OR level) slot ?
PANELS-glow.dds (for glow map) DXT1 > in Glossiness slot.

And finaly for environmental map i have to change the alpha value in > Output > Alpha from RGB intensity and save in DXT 5 still dont need to put a new environmental map in Reflection slot.

i just want know if i have correctly understand what i have to do tks to reply me.

Ok mmhh wunderfull thing i have try with a sphere and i use a plugins from photoshop to convert my *TGA map
on *DDS.

here was many option i dont know exactly what to use but convert my tga map to dxt 1 or dxt 1 with 1 alpha.

No way object is completly hide in game i see nothing 256x256 or 256x128 any map size mipmap or not is same nothing on screen :(.

i dont know anymore now tks for help.

Ok i have find why ship is not show that not a problemes.

the thing is i got now specular & environmental map on my ship tks again Water.

just one last problemes where exactly i change this alpha for environmental map becose reflection on my ship
is really to high i just need know if i change this in photoshop or in 3dsmax 5 ?

I don't know Max terminology. My best guess
Max = Freespace map

Diffuse = panels.dds
Transparency = alpha of panels.dds

Specular colour and Specular levels  (Glossiness??) = panels-shine.dds
Reflect = alpha of panels-shine.dds

Luminosity = panels-glow.dds

mip maps (box or cubic filter)

Change alpha for environmental map in photoshop

The plugin doesn't create an alpha mask, photoshop does.
Do a web search for creating an alpha channel in photoshop. Then look for info on editing it.

When you save it - use DXT5 - generate mip maps all - mip map filtering box or cubic -

Sorry I can't be more help as I use the Gimp for image editing.

Ok tks again for help now i know how to make specular & environmental map for my ship  :)

i just got a last probleme if you know.

specular (or and) smoothing is wrong on my ship mean is reversed i dont see correctly specular on ship.

if you know from what this can provide tks again.

Its ok i find the specular problemes need          reset X-form.
