Texture not appearing in ModelView
Just like the title says. I actually posted this question in a different thread, but because the title was about 'Shield Making', I decided to make a new one. I can't seem to make the texture appear in model view. It does appear in PCS tho.

The model IS there...

But the texture just isn't appearing.

Hit Ctrl T
It should open an extra window at the bottom showing texture status and location

I did. Then I just opened it up in modelview, just out of habit. Then I saw that.

It says texture status ok. The thing that worries me is the little array in the upper right, which says txtr 0.

=Edit=
So... Uh, I thought that maybe it was just modelview acting up.

Apparantly not. On the bright side, its an amazing stealth ship.

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
Well it looks like PCS2 can handle 24bit pcx files. So that is one possible reason you can see it in PCS2 and not Modelview or FSO. (you said it was an 8 bit pcx so this is unlikely)

Modelview and PCS1 are mostly obsolete except for machines that PCS2 won't run on.

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
But even if it was a 24bit pcx, it should still appear in game, right? So I don't see why if the texture can be seen in PCS, and can't be seen in-game.

PCS2 handles 8 bit and 24bit pcx. FreeSpace and Modelview just 8 bit.

With PCS2 mostly test with tga. Switch to dds once everything is finalised.

If you are using retail FS then stick with pcx

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
I thought about that while I was bathing too. So I'm gonna change my textures to .dds and have a little look see. *fingers crossed*

Goddamn ****! Photoshop doesn't convert to .dds. Quick, to find GIMP!

YES!! THANK YOU NVIDIA!! Found a plug-in to convert to .dds.

... How to I replace textures in PCS2? Is it possible?

Test with tga.

With several files to chose from of the same name, Freespace will pick dds first, then either tga or jpg. Last chosen is pcx.

So all you have to do is use the same filename. texture.dds, texture.tga, texture.pcx etc..

Yes pcs2 can change the texture name, but it can't change the extension (image type)

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
Irfranview also now supports DDS (not sure what type I haven't used it yet) but it does open them.
When in doubt, make texture a 8bit PCX (for testing purposes). You can always go back later and go all bells and whistles once you know basic things work as they should... (ie: model and texture)

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
I have a bad habit of modeliing and modelling and modelling despite having no idea how to texture them. :p

I have a few fighters, a corvette and a frigate WIP, despite not knowing how to texture any of them.

Re: Texture not appearing in ModelView
BTW since you moved the topic...

You should always import a working dockpoint/path for resupply because if a test fighter (or allied fighter/whatever) calls one in for secondaries guess what, CRASH!...

Either that, or in your test missions you have to choose the disallow support ships, option.
