Hmm. Nose needs work, but you knew that already. Looks like it could be partly Shivan, partly Terran. (Maybe a Terran-Shivan hybrid made after the FS2 timeline as the Terran-Vasudan one was made after (or was it during?) FS1. The difference being that the Shivans didn't help in it's design.

Like it. Looking better, though I agree that the neck in particular needs a bit more work. Looks a little too fat for my tastes...

It also looks very big. I'd say that it it were an interceptor, it should be the GTF Lardass... However, it could be a cool heavy fighter or bomber - looks like it should carry Trebuchet-type weapons rather than big torpedoes, though, so I think a heavy fighter would be better.

EDIT: I'd like to point out that the neck more than anything makes the ship look oversize. The rest of the model would be equally good as an interceptor, but that neck...

ok tried to make a custom map. It's only a map for the top side, and not a very complete one at that. It's created in ps7. not that that made things better, 'cause I suck at PS.

There's got to be a good texture creation tutorial out there somehwere (I'm aware of the one @ XWAupgrade.com). My google searches have been less than succesful. Not too shabby for a beginner.

The thing I hate about trial & error is the frustration.

Latest model is looking pretty good.
The red is intresting... but makes it look a bit shivan.  Maybee some dark green stripes to balance it out, sort of artimies DH green.

The first pic is basically Icefire's suggestion and then I played a bit with the blending modes, or whatever it's called, in PS.

I decided to redo the top view again. It's not perfect, but I'm much happier with the result.
The cockpit isn't supposed to have such a prominent seam, though.
