Diaspora Contol Setup?
Hello all,

I have never played space sims before and they really were not even on my radar until I heard about Star Citizen. As you all most likely know, the Dog Fighting Module is right around the corner and I wanted to play a space sim game to "get my feet wet" so to speak, so I'll have an idea of how to play. So, a fellow internet goer recommended Diaspora as it's free and a no risk proposition opposed to buying a copy of Free Space 2, Wing Commander etc.  I installed the game and I noticed a ton of control options. I bought a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X for the DFM and I would like to use that in Diaspora as well. Obviously, there aren't enough buttons on the joystick to map all of the commands to. So what are the essential commands that need to be mapped? Would anyone recommend configurations, please?

Just to be clear, you can fly FreeSpace or Diaspora with a mouse and keyboard, or a keyboard alone, and fly as well as anyone on Earth. If that's a concern for you.

Commands can be boiled down to an essential list pretty easily but I will have to leave that with someone not sneaking in posts at work.

I actually got the HOTAS because using a mouse and keyboard setup is difficult for me in most games. (I'll be using the joystick for movement in games like Skyrim too. Joystick + Logitech G600. :P) Thank you for input I appreciate it :D Though I'll let someone else answer because I don't want you getting in trouble at work. Have a good day!

As an aside, you can also check out the Wing Commander Saga and The Babylon Project total conversions for free (i.e. Freespace 2 not required).

I downloaded and installed wing commander saga as well. I learned that these are modded versions of Free Space 2. It must have taken a lot of time and effort for mods of this caliber. to put together. I'm going to have some fun with them for sure :D  I also think I'll play Wing Commander Saga first because I don't know much about Battllestar Galactica.

You should play Diaspora (the BSG mod) first because it's shorter and better.

Ok I'll take your word for it :P

Re: Diaspora Contol Setup?
I'll second that. Wing Commander Saga is meant to emulate the Wing Commander games of old, and as such share a few of their flaws, as well as a several of their own. Which reminds me that I really should finish that dialogue skip mod one day.

So yeah, Diaspora is good intro to space flight sims. Wing Commander Saga is more for nostalgic veterans rather than new players.
