Figuring out ship shinyness!
So okay,

If you all didn't know I'm using TrashMan's COTS ships for my web comic. I'm actually producing animations for it with FS2 because it just looks so awesome. Anyway, he's got a shiny ship in there, the Falcon. Boy, is it SHINY. I found a dds file that seemed to add the shininess, but I deleted it and the ship is still shiny:shaking: How do I get rid of this highly reflective problem? Thanks!

(Yes I looked in other directories just in case the file was lingering.)

It's still shiny after deleting the shinemap?  :wtf:

Re: Figuring out ship shinyness!
... Wow. I guess the ship must be made of glass or something. :p

So technically speaking, beams will be useless against it, cause the beam'd get reflected?

But you sure you deleted the shinemap? What's the folder path for your maps/models ?

Maybe he deleted the -normal map...
You should delete the -shine map if you don't want it shiny.

Alternatively, open the -shine map in GIMPhotoshopwhatever and fill the Alpha Channel Black.
I suspect that is the issue here...

Re: Figuring out ship shinyness!
IIRC if you delete the shine map it uses the diffuse map as the shine map.

Re: Figuring out ship shinyness!
Yup, making a black layer and saving it as a "yourfilenamehere"shine.dds will result in a nearly flat shine.

Re: Figuring out ship shinyness!
You mean no shine at all.
Also, the game does not use the diffuse map as a shine map if one isn't present - it uses nothing.

Pretty sure he's talking about the environment map guys. If the shine map has an alpha channel, make sure it's completely opaque, that is 100% alpha. This is a common problem really.
