Searching for Realflight or similar
Hi all!

For the last few days I've been searching for mods that change the way that ships behave in space, and have seen a bunch about -Joshua-'s mod Realflight. The features seem to be exactly what I'm after.

However, the last post in the thread was 2010, and the links to any files are long since dead :( ...

Does anyone know of any alternatives or other ways I can go about having similar features in my game?

Thanks!

Re: Searching for Realflight or similar
Hello and welcome to HLP (I'd give you the proper customary "welcome beam" type welcome, if I knew how. Someone more able might be along later to do that).

Various versions of -Joshua-'s RealFlight mods can be found hosted at FS Mods: http://www.freespacemods.net/e107_plugins/download/download.php?action=list&id=46&from=10&view=10&order=datestamp&sort=desc

It seems that website has had a significant makeover since I last visited.

EDIT: Correction - you're right, the files are nowhere on that site. I'll see if I can re-upload; failing that I might be able to attach them to a post. Will post back here ASAP.

Mods should be attached. I'll try to upload to FS Mods if / when I find my login details.

Re: Searching for Realflight or similar
Cheers for the welcome! :)

On the realflight files that lostllama sent ... I have opened the files up and the structure doesn't look similar to any of the other mods that my launcher (wxlauncher). If I were trying to load these files into a vanilla game (or into another mod) where do these files have to go?

Also, when trying to download the zip that niffiwan attached a link to, my browser says Failed - no file. Says the same when I go to fsfiles and find it manually too. In fact, all of the files on fsfiles do that.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Searching for Realflight or similar
Yeah; those files are not packaged as a mod :(

You need to do something like this:

create a new mod directory; e.g. c:\freespace2\realflight
create new data\tables directories inside that; e.g. c:\freespace2\realflight\data\tables
put the .tbm and .tbl files in that directory
copy the mediavps_2014 mod.ini file to c:\freespace2\realflight\mod.ini
edit the file and rename the "modname" section; the infotext; and probably the images

Having done all that it should work like a normal mod.  But; as a player you shouldn't have to mess with all that; maybe someone else with some experience can do all that for you.

Not sure what's going on with FreespaceFiles, could you try with a different browser?  Maybe your anti-virus program is intercepting the downloads?

Hello and welcome to HLP (I'd give you the proper customary "welcome beam" type welcome, if I knew how.

For the record:  :welcome:

Also for the record: if you wish to show someone BBCode without the BBCode triggering, do it like this: :we[i][/i]lcome:   Also, you can just hit quote on their post to see how they formatted things.

Re: Searching for Realflight or similar
Apologies for not providing the correct file structure. Back when I was using these files I simply extracted whichever one I wanted to use to Freespace2/data/tables (like the description on FS Mods says), as I was using them only for the FS2 campaign (with the SCP enhancements) - that seemed to work for me.

I've uploaded the zip to FreespaceFiles

Thanks.

Oooh, didn't know about that one.  Was it added a while ago, or was it just not commonly used?

...Yes.

(It's been there for at least a couple years, but I don't know exactly how long; I only noticed it when Goober used it once.)
