Ah. Well, I can assue you that won't happen again. Turey's FSO Installer does not provide the retail files at all anymore, but you can purchase a cheap, legal copy of FS2 from Good Old Games.

I see...I assume Turey changed the Installer shortly after reading that "encouraging" thread about Interplay?

In any case all BSG pilots should give FS a try... :)

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora

Actually, no. There was some (not-for-normal-forumites'-eyes) discussion about it when we first heard of GOG. It was thought that we shouldn't provide the retail data anymore, since there now is a handy, legal method for getting FS2. And with little money as well. Turey agreed, as the Installer had only provided FS2, because back then there were no legal methods for getting FS2, apart from eBay which sucks Satan's Hairy BollocksTM.

It is now mentioned in the Installer thread, as well as on the Installation Walkthrough on the Support board.

Angelus: I don't remember where it is, sorry... :(

Lobo: Ok, GOG allowes people to buy the game...but is that service fair enough to send copies of FS2 throught the world? I hard believe an Italian, a Lithuanian, a Singaporean and an Argentinian have the same chances and possibilities of getting the game. The price will change, too.

Is ULing retail data to a site that has no apparent connections to HLP a nice idea?

Yes...because it's a fully international service.  Anyone anywhere can purchase the game for $6 US.  Everybody's in the same boat.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
Anyone caught posting links to FS2 for download other than an official site such as GoG will be banned. I don't care what bull**** reason they give for it.

GoG proved to be a very cool bunch of people over the whole thing with LuaPineapple and even if they hadn't they are the only people with the legal right to distribute the game on the internet. I'm not having some halfwit drag the entire site down because they've decided to upload warez in strict violation of the board's policy.

Furthermore this entire line of conversation is completely off-topic and will likely result in a monkeying if it continues.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora

I am pleased to announce that the 1st Edition of the new monthly BSGpilots.com newsletter, the Jock Smock Times has been published some minutes ago and Diaspora takes up 100% of the news in the Gaming category with some exclusive content and images.

BSG fans should definitely check out the rest of the Newsletter as we have exclusive content and news regarding the show as well, including upcoming exclusive interviews with a few BSG cast members.

I wish to thank Karajorma and Diaspora for providing us with exclusive content and for maintaining a good relationship between our two communities.

We wish Diaspora best wishes and thanx for all the hard work. Keep it up! The BSGpilots.com Fleet News Service and our Jock Smock Times newsletter will strive to continue bringing news and updates (and interviews with the Team) regarding Diaspora.

Long live Diaspora!

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
Thanx so much m8. Besides the announcement and link on the announcements box dead in the center of our index page, we have added Disapora to the gaming setion of our Links library.

Here is the description:

Quote
Diaspora is a dream come true for Battlestar Galactica fans. This game will give BSG fans a chance to stop being only spectators of the show and instead become the protagonists. Get yourself into Viper and make BSG history!

And for those interested, here is the BtRL description ;)

Quote
A fan made BSG game. BSG Pilots was founded originally to serve the BtRL community. Unfortunately the Developers disrespected fans, failed to provide bug fixes, updates and new content, thus most fans and websites abandoned BtRL.

I'm sorry...I cant help it :P

You might also want to add Cry of the Gods. I've been to their forums and they seem like a pretty nice bunch. And since they are willing to  pimp Diaspora on their forum it's only fair I do the same on mine. :)

Thanx for the heads up. It is good for BSG games to support each other. There are very few after all.

Is it a mod for the X series of sim? X3 Reunion?

Yup, which means it'll look great, X3 isn't my favourite combat dynamics in the world, but from what I've seen, the team are doing an awesome job.

Re: BSG Pilots and Diaspora
Although BSGpilots.com started out with the primary goal of being a meeting place for BSG gamers using our Launch Tube Chatroom, over the years it has evolved into an all-encompassing BSG fansite and the gaming aspect has become one of our several Departments.

Up to this point things have been quiet. BtRL died, the Sierra BSG game sucked, and other BSG mods have not taken-off, so basically BSG gaming has fallen off our priority list.

However, with the advent of Diaspora, things are different. Diaspora is the most promising BSG game to date, and BSGpilots wants to be prepared with Release 1 hits the web.

Our Head of Gaming at BSGP, Angelus, has been busy in RL and our other Gaming Staff member, Foundry, has gone MIA also. I dont have the time to dedicate to Diaspora and our Gaming Department full time, and I feel we have been neglecting on of our primary aspects, i.e. BSG gaming.

So, I am looking right now for what one could call a "Business Development" person. I.e, someone who will help us prepare for the release of Diaspora and make the appropriate preparations to best serve the Diaspora gaming community. We also are seeking for Writers for our Fleet News Service who will specialize in BSG Gaming news and articles. Once Diaspora is released, we'll also be looking for Event Administrators who plan, organize, promote, oversee and manage Diaspora gaming events.

Last but not least, I would like to develop an event hosting and statistic tracking system for BSGP. Something along the line of Battlestats.com, except dedicated solely to BSG gaming.

What this will do is allow people to register an account, and participate in organized Diaspora gaming events such as tournaments, ladders, wars etc. It'd also allow for people to create and manage Clans, and have Clan vs Clan competitions.

I am capable of building such a system, but unfortunately I dont think I have the time. I might try to give it a shot sometime, but we are looking for people who are fluent in PHP and MySQL and want to help develop such a system.

So to recap we are looking for:

BSG Gaming News Writers
BSG Gaming Department Developers and Diaspora Liaisons
PHP Programmers

So if you have the skills of a writer and/or programming skills and/or are good with Forum software (SMF) and are passionate about Diaspora and Battlestar Galactica and want to help us build a great home for BSG gamers, then drop me a line through PMs on this forum, or the BSGPilots forum.

Help us relaunch the BSGpilots Gaming Department :)
