Title: Facebook: How to remove Search "top results" in search box
Post by: Marcov on July 15, 2011, 08:28:06 am
Hello there. The reason why I picked this site for asking this is because the members here are generally responsive, haha.

Anyway, so there is this annoying habit of Facebook, that I view the page of someone whom I don't even know, and that someone for instance, has a name that starts in a letter "A". Now I DO NOT like to see the face and presence of that someone on Facebook. But when I merely type "A" on the search box, that someone's face and name just APPEARS. I don't like this.

Apparently, even if I erase my Internet History, it still stays (I'm using Google Incognito). So, this seems to be data stored on Facebook, not as Cookies on my computer.

This is also the case for Youtube; for instance, you sign up for "Account A" and then sign out. You delete your internet history, clear cookies etc. But you come back and sign in to Youtube, but the "recommendations", etc. still appear. Why? Because it's data stored in THAT account, not in YOUR computer. So the only way to get rid of it is to clear the Search History on Youtube.

Now, as I see it, the problem lies in the fact that Facebook doesn't seem to have a "Clear Search History" option. This is something I obviously don't like. I want to get rid of that person keeping on popping up just as I begin typing.

...

And so, anyone who is willing to help will be gladly praised. I'm in need.
Thank you.

Or don't use facebook. You can't really influence what kind of statistics they're gathering on you while surfing around while logged on to the site.

sorry bud, you're stuck with it.  facebook programmers get excited when they make any kind of new feature that kinda works and run with it.  the fact that it's ****ing stupid and no one wants it be damned.

Have you tried blocking the person and seeing if that makes a difference?

Its an annoying feature bit they will go away partially by hiding their posts. In about a weeks time they will stop being the top hit when you start typing.

So, what to do now so that this "it will go away in a week's time" thing will happen?

give it a few months and the rules that set that list up witll be changed in some fundamental and retarded way, just because the coders can.

Thanks anyway. I blocked that person and after several days somehow nothing appeared anymore. :)
