Title: Translation WIN
Post by: Goober5000 on July 25, 2012, 10:38:44 pm
Some of you may know that the intrepid Mjn.Mixael is creating a few cbanims for us.  One of the cbanims on his plate is a logo for the Imperial Special Forces, the Vasudan equivalent of SOC.  Mjn.Mixael mentioned that the SOC cbanim has the letters "SOC" on it, and he wanted to know if he should put a Vasudan abbreviation on the ISF cbanim.  So I decided to translate "Imperial Special Forces" to Vasudan, using the word and language reference that I had developed for Phoenix.

It translates to "Karabimahoy Govalitoloy Bisantinol".

Well at lest you would require only a quite simple logo, a star and under it 'KGB' oh and the star has to be pink with vasudan in it wearing a funny hat.

Thank you captain obvious. Sounds like someone has no notion of dark humor around here.

It's dark humor only if it's intentional.

[EDIT]To elaborate, I don't know if it's intentional or not. I just want to say that there is no point in calling it "dark humor" any more than there is to call it "funny coincidence."

Note, he's from Poland. It wasn't officially a part of the Soviet Union, but that's about it. Let's say that KGB isn't too fondly remembered around here. In The West, this might be dark humor, but it's a bit too dark in a place so close to Russia.

It was a completely unintentional coincidence.  I came up with the word reference in 2008, and I only just decided to translate that phrase on Wednesday.

What's interesting, the words themselves also "feel" Russian. I think  :v: might've used a Slavic language as a base for Vasudan.

Umm...
...using the word and language reference that I had developed for Phoenix.

And I used some rather random sources, but none of them were Slavic, to my knowledge.

Ah, I thought that you just compiled it from bits made by :v: . So it's just a coincidence.

There was indeed a partial Volition reference, especially for noun declensions, but I ended up changing it around quite a bit.
