Do you ever dream of Freespace?
I posted about having a Freespace dream once before years ago. That one was based on a specific mission from Silent Threat Reborn, but this second one was completely original and just completely out of the blue. In both dreams I thought it was real, not some video game.

I was flying escort for a convoy. Two wings of three fighters. The convoy had 4 vessels, but the real objective was a VIP on one of the ships. We had to get it to a starbase. So then we get told that the base itself is under heavy attack and the other wing gets ordered in to reinforce the defence. So there's just three of us to defend the convoy and I can feel the sweat on the back of my neck, I'm deathly afraid of the Shivans hitting us with only three of us. And of course they do hit us. They go for us not the convoy. I don't remember specifics, it's just a whirlwind of me trying to stay alive and shoot Shivans, I remember my two wingmen did most of the killing and we all made it.

So we clear away the Shivans and the convoy becomes jump capable and we jump. The base is pretty big, built on top of a huge asteroid. The fighting's raging around it, there's a ton of debris around, though the defenders are only mildly outnumbered so I feel confident they will win. We have to take the convoy in with this firefight raging, and I'm just praying the Shivans don't come over, and they don't and we get in safely.

Throughout the dream I had a sense of weariness, as if I'd been fighting the Shivans mostly non-stop. Space was so beautiful, and I got to spend some time on the base before the dream ended, including the feeling of being on it while the fight continues outside, and the cocktail of emotions of being relieved to not be out there and feeling guilty about not being out there, I wasn't worried about the base getting destroyed with me on it. They mopped up the Shivans pretty easily in the end, we weren't needed. I talked to people, but don't remember details. I woke up feeling stressed, the emotions were very visceral in this dream.

Anyone else have any Freespace dreams?

Not FreeSpace, but I did dream of Starcraft recently.

I had a group of Protoss and we were being chased by something. I can't, for the life of me, remember what it was, I just assumed it was a hybrid after I woke up. Anyway, we all hid, but it hunted us down until there was only one left, and I was in first person mode and I literally felt his hand break through the wall and into my chest just before waking up, trembling, panicked.

My favourite way of waking up. Barring the cocktail of emotions.

Hey, I've got no problem with people posting dreams from other spacey stuff here! :)

Thanks for sharing. One thing I remember from the dream is we jumped in without the base in view. We had to work our way around the asteroid to get to the base and the base and the sun behind it were revealed at the same time. So we kind of sneaked in through the back door while the Shivans were busy. The base itself, I don't know how to describe it's design properly, it was a fairly light grey, a bit like an oil rig in terms of having two thick platforms in the style of an oil rig's platforms, but bigger, and the platforms were clearly inhabited with floors all the way down, and they sort of fattened and widened out at the top into each other, which was a good few floors deep, maybe 8 or 9 floors deep. The platforms were probably about 4 or 5 times that. We went in at the top, and the place had huge windows. I could see the fighting outside.

Re: Do you ever dream of Freespace?
The time I released my first mission, I had a dream that the actual supreme leader of Iran came on the HLP forums to tell me how bad it was. Oh, and he had about 7 badges and an avatar, so I think he was an admin too.
Former Inferno lead, BTA fredder-ish and DE fredder. Driven out by ordinary fascists the_e, aesaar and general battuta. Will return if they're ever removed.

I had the reverse experience - I used to dream I was flying a Viper, then I played Diaspora.  :)

Re: Do you ever dream of Freespace?
I believe I mentioned this one in the previously-mentioned FS Dream thread, but I once had a FRED dream.  It was a LONG time ago, and I had decided to learn how to FRED, but the sexp language was confusing.  As it happened, I got sick that night and became somewhat feverish.  As a result, my dreams became EXTRA weird.  Now, I wasn't dreaming of the space grid and placing ships, it was more like the FRED code became a tangible thing, except that my previous confusion caused the sexp 3D representations to interact in a non-sequitur fashion.  Put simply, I could see the language the structures they were arranging made no sense.  If anyone of you had been looking through my eyes at the time, you wouldn't have seen anything that you recognized as either Freespace or FRED, but I just KNEW that it was FRED and that I couldn't make sense of it.  I have since learned a great deal about FRED and it makes much more sense to me.

On a side note, image if you could FRED, from WITHIN FRED? :eek2:

I hate fever dreams.  The first time i had one it was related to gaming as well.  I dreamed/thought almost obsessively about MechWarrior 3 armor and heatsinks - different types and materials and placements, effectiveness in water vs. on land, etc.  I can't begin to describe how odd it was though, especially since it was about 17 years ago.  I was on vacation and did not have access to my game, but I had been reading the Prima strategy guide before I got sick so i guess that is what stuck.

Re: Do you ever dream of Freespace?
I remember one. I was 13 or 14 that time. The only thing I remember today was the Satis with vasudan head on it's nose. Vasudan male to be precise [if zods are actually dioecious]. He was talking something to me in typical vasudan language, but in dream it was like demon speech o__O. I was drifting in the space nearby, without body or any form of self identity. Just pure senses.

It was... Like a nightmare. That voice was really scary. I wasn't lucid dreamer that time so I wasn't able to escape.

If this counts, I had multiple Blender dreams. Many techniques I was dreaming of I actually tried with good results. One of them was related to debris creation and I tried that when I was working on GTSD Bastion for Inferno few years ago. It crashed the game :P.

The SEXP system is Turing-complete, so this is theoretically possible.
