Freespace Open on ScholarsPlay
So I think it's safe to now announce that tomorrow (Friday 11/3/2017) as part of my department's coolness, ScholarsPlay will be streaming Freespace! While my current plan is to stream Silent Threat: Reborn as a way to talk both about the retail games and the wonderful work being done here, things may change as I'm the only one of our group of 4 with any knowledge about the game.

Catch me (and the other scholars) here from 4:30pm - 6:30pm PACIFIC TIME (UTC-8:00):

Hope to see some of you there!

PS: For those of you waiting for my video series to continue, this is the closest I'm getting for a little bit so hope you enjoy it!

Re: Freespace Open on ScholarsPlay
Welp I unfortunately messed up the instructions I sent to the person whose computer we use and we're kicking Freespace back a week (Friday 11/10). As a side note the launcher version packaged with the installer doesn't work with 3.8.0 in my experience.

Sorry about that. Next week hopefully!

By "launcher version packaged with the installer", do you mean wxLauncher 0.10.1, or are we still distributing the old 5.5g launcher for some reason? If the former, it should, but only with mod folders that don't have spaces in the name and only if no fs2_open.ini exists in the AppData folder. Otherwise, yes, 0.12.0-rc.2 is required for proper 3.8.0 support.

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

Re: Freespace Open on ScholarsPlay
Yes I was referring to the wxLauncher 0.10.1 (should have been more specific, oops). I haven't seen/thought about the 5.5g launcher in years :P
