Water colours are a good suggestion, AtomicClucker. I tried them a couple times in the past, and the results were awful. It would be really good for learning how to be economical with my mark making. Might have to dig some up.

In the meantime, I tried to sacrilegiously combine Tom Thomson's style with modern industry. I think I'm going to have to return to the studies, because I didn't do a very good job of painting a SAGD facility, or using his style.



Returned to my comfort zone for the next one. I was experimenting with a script I wrote in Javascript to increase the amount of variation in my colours. I also tried applying some of the lessons from the Tom Thomson studies, namely how background seemed to be painted over the foreground:

A little bump. Did a portrait of a housemate. Turned out okay, I guess. A bit off. The coloration of his face is a bit boring. The shadows aren't very saturated, and just turned sort of grey.



The pronghorn is just a study, for a possible public art project.



And finally, I'm trying to learn how to draw people. This isn't the first attempt, and there's still a long way to go.



Hopefully, with a bit more practice, I'll be able to render out decent looking characters for concepts and whatnot. It's a pretty severe handicap if I need a model every time I draw a person.

There are loads of youtube channels like sycra and Scott Robertson which can help to get the basics of rendering. Or even simplistic perspective and proportion down.

Despite my previous comments about focusing on drawing people, the next set are either animal studies from images pulled from the internet, or a made up creature for the last one.

I like the last one, but in hindsight I should have considered the silhouette a bit more. I think it was partially inspired by the Ohju in Kemono no Souja Erin.

That's true, I guess chickens do have the same kind of legs, with the feathers ending halfway down. Though I don't mind, since chickens look pretty cool.

My Afghanistan rescue dog met the grand in laws yesterday. The cousins too, and their kids. Young kids aged three'ish.  On his maiden walk in Stowmarket he proceeded to wing an escaping woodpigeon and disembowel it in front of said children.


Proud doggy daddy indeed I am.
