Re: HLP Newsletter - January 2013
The Diaspora documentation is available from here (I just uploaded it, so it's much newer than the beta version I posted previously). If you don't have Diaspora you won't be able to actually do the walkthroughs but basically this is a hugely updated version of the FRED documentation.

Basically if you're learning to FRED, you probably should read it. I tried to make sure that it covered every single feature of FRED when Diaspora was released so it should cover almost everything the upcoming 3.6.16 builds can do. The FREDdocs you have only cover what retail can do.

Thanks. I see the "10 minute" part now. Reminds me of the original walkthrough, where they (I think) have you put in a single Mara and engage it. No need for briefings/debriefings or objectives or events or anything. Yes, I cranked out little things like that all the time while I was experimenting in the early days. I made myself a nice little testing map with 24 respawning wings of single fighters, 12 to a side, so there's always 24 ships engaged at the same time until the spawns run out on one of the wings. I usually do 10 spawns.

Re: HLP Newsletter - January 2013
Well done sir, I thoroughly enjoyed the newsletter :)

As for what I'm looking forward to in 2013?  The next Blueplanet (given that it seems to be just around the corner) and finishing off all those campaigns I started & haven't completed yet... Diaspora, LCW, JAD  :nervous:

(and specifically on the video, Pomp & Circumstance, I felt like it was the last night of the proms, loved it ;))

Nicely done mate, I can definatly see a future in it.  Might I suggest a locked sticky just for the newsletters and keeping this thread for its discussion

I have watched the video.

Axem, did you play all those campaigns and make all that footage for the video?

I can't help but wonder what footage from mine you'd have put in there if you'd been aware of it.

If the answer to that question is yes, would you mind playing mine? You don't have to make a video, I'm just most curious now as to what footage you'd actually have shot and put in there.

Lorric: I did play through, at least part of each campaign. Except WCS, I just took from their accolades trailer. I can't say what I would take from yours. Probably just me blowing up ships and attacking larger ones. Its a common theme from the clips.

Kobrar44: Yes, that does deserve some special recognition. I have added it.

Alright. I thought it was a smart move using the WCS trailer.

Yes, I also have to say that the screenshot idea is a very very good one. Not only it creates a little competition on the forum, but the end result will be excelent advertizing to Freespace modding. It will be hard to top Diaspora shots though! (Not impossible) :)

e: One thing that pisses me off is that I can't play things like Ancient Shivan War or Vassago Dirge with the shadow deferred lighting builds or the newest BP 3.6.17 builds without it crashing severely mostly at the start of the campaigns.

Axem failed to make a proper official screenshot thread, so Rodo got ahead and made the thread instead here:

Re: HLP Newsletter - January 2013
You know act 2 was released in 2010 don't you? I mean it's not as if BP is not confusing and all.

Beware though. No BP was released in 2012, so you are immediately off the competition :D :D
