With the belief in our invincibility and powerful warships on our orders, we rebuilt what we had lost fighting against the Shivans. It is said that we are ready to confront the Destroyers again. But if it is not true, we are going to pay a terrible price...

   The Cerberus Legacy slowly but constantly destroys the GTVA just like a cancer. They attack from the shadow, strike in our weakest points and withdrawn before we can react. Blackmailing, terrorism, kidnapping are their methods. They are responsible for numerous outrages across the GTVA. Unless we hunt them down, the Alliance won’t be safe.

Shadow Genesis  is the largest in-progress mod on Polish Freespace 2 scene and is going to be very different from current campaigns available for players. Since almost two years we have been working on this project. Using the most advanced FS2 Open technologies and inventing an unique storyline, we’d like to create a long (about 45 missions) campaign of the best quality.

The Shadow Genesis team is much smaller than for example Blue Planet team. 90% of work is being made by two brothers and experienced FS2 modders from Poland: Teeraal (also known as Qbitus and Betrayal) and Macielos (previously known as Petarch).

What to expect in Shadow Genesis:
- Epic and unique storyline. As lieutenant (then commander) Nathan Miles you will join the 6th Terran Fleet, commonly known as The Wolf’s Fleet, autonomic GTVA fleet stationing in the Wolf’s Systems Group. The years have passed since the second Shivan incursion and the Alliance has rebuilt its power, but despite that, the times are not easy. As a pilot of the Wolf’s Fleet, you’re going to face dangerous and well-armed terrorists from Cerberus Legacy. This powerful secret organisation spreads its influence in all GTVA and is preparing an intrigue that may result in a huge-scale war.
- Great battles and tactical combat. Forget about stupid enemies deploying tens of bombers and fighters wing after wing against the destroyer. Cerberus Legacy does not send large forces to battle, but maximises their advantages and uses unconventional tactics. Be prepared for quick hit & run attacks against GTVA warships’ beam cannons as well as sniper strikes swarming you with Trebuchets. Most ships will leave the battlefield when seriously damaged. They will also attack in larger groups, not just wing after wing, ship after ship, like in most campaigns. On the other hand, in many missions the player has 3-6 wings (including fighters, bombers and sometimes special units like snipers) under command, so wise command is crucial when facing outnumbered enemies.
- Campaign of the highest possible quality. We’re going to elaborate all missions in every detail. Explore all systems of the Wolf’s Group, each with unique backgrounds. Fight in space, on the planet orbits, even in the atmosphere. In SG you will find many Open-based facilities and solutions: cutscenes, checkpoint system known from War in Heaven, hotkeys, extended directives and escort ships windows and many more. Shadow Genesis has a large modpack that includes new generation of GTVA warships. We use many refreshed and retextured models that you have probably seen in  other mods as well as a few new models designed and created especially for SG. You will also experience the new GTVA arsenal in combat: long-range artillery cannons, subspace perturbers, disruptor beams and, of course, many new primary and secondary weapons for fighters. Last but not least, our mod has almost entirely new soundtrack from great games and films.

When will the project be released?
Expect Shadow Genesis to be released about May 2011. About 2/3 missions are completely or almost finished, but we’re still waiting for a few models. Version 1.0 is being created in Polish – firstly, because we want to support the Polish Freespace Scene. Secondly, because we want to catch and remove any bugs that will occur. The final version will be then translated into English and released on HLP about June/July 2011 and it will be compatible with the newest SCP builds including Antipodes.

Gorgeous backdrop work there, very impressed. Especially like the Blue star near the top. If the campaign matches the visuals this should be good ;)

I haven't been notified that FreeSpace had become a national championship. No offence, but what is this whole stuff about "Polish modding scene" ? There is no competition going on dudes, and there is way enough crap going on in the world to not exacerbate jingoism.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Nice screens.
Though I don't like the idea of Polish release comng out first, mostly because I don't like Polish FS translation in the first place and play with everything in english, thus english HUD and generic messages would look out of place in an otherwise Polish campaign. I'll rather wait for english release (if you'd like to have a translator to take care of this before release, I can try, but I don't have much free time, so it won't be very quick).

Noticing that Trashman's Orion model is being used, is it using the extra turrets as well?
Backgrounds are outstanding, and it's great that some of the less-used ships are showing up in this mod.

I see the Reyena! It's nice to see a good model like that being used in a campaign.

Yet something else to look forward to in 2011. :)

Holy **** that is stunning. Very impressive picture of the Orion in front of the blue star, reminds me of the ending in Blue Planet's WiH. I bet this campagin will be very great, I shall stalk you until you complete it.

It has got 32 turrets in total. At the time of the Shadow Genesis campaign, Orions are being replaced by newer destroyers and those still in service are equipped in new long-range plasma cannons (like those of Reyena/Atlas), so they serve as carriers and artillery support rather than frontline battleships.

Reyena is now GTFg Atlas and plays an important role of long-range artillery frigate. Long-range combat has become an essential part of the GTVA military tactics.

Well, to be honest, it was an idea of my brother, Betrayal/Qbitus, and he insisted on it. The plan is to release 1.0 version on Polish Freespace Scene, catch all bugs there and then release final version (translated into English) on HLP. I reassure you that Polish language in SG will be much better than in main FS2 campaign ;). And of course, we are open to all help in translation, so we'll call you after SG 1.0 release.

We don't want to compete or emphasise our nationality in any way. We've just mentioned we're Polish and so far we were active mostly on Polish Freespace scene. If you regard every reference to nationality as jingoism, you are mistaken. We are not nationalists at all.

Backgrounds are outstanding, and it's great that some of the less-used ships are showing up in this mod.
It's Bobbau's Orion, but with Trashman's main cannon model imported from Trashy's Orion. Droid803 did a nice version for his Tides of Darkness mod, Orion in SG is based on Droid's alteration but I've changed a few things.

I don't know if mentioning our nationality at all is a good idea, since most of what both the previous and current Polish government accomplished was being a disgrace for itself and our nation (and in case of the previous government, the humanity itself) in the most spectacular and humilating way possible. Let's release SG in English and quietly forget the nation which gave the world "Get lost, beggar" line (froum our previous President, no less) and The Smolensk Circus. It's just another slightly wild country somewhere near Germany.  :)

2/3 of 45 missions means you have 15 missions left to finish and 2 months to do it. That seems like an awfully tight schedule... you sure you don't want to take a little more time to make sure you get everything thoroughly polished and tested? No need to rush...

Looking forward to it either way. :)

May 2011 is not a final date, it may change if something goes wrong. We'll do our best to finish the campaign on time, but if we don't manage to elaborate everything, we'll certainly postpone the release. Oh, and a number of completed missions is actually not true as I wrote the announcement a few weeks ago. Now we've got 7 missions and 3 cutscenes to make, and then, of course, LOTS of testing and balancing ;). I think we may finish by May.

Consider me for Beta, I could also begin translation immidiately after joining, thus speeding up the English release.
Although I won't be able to work very fast, I'm both quite good at English and have contact with people who are even better than me (as in, teaching English in High School, on a very high level), so I should be able to handle translation quite well. I also consider myself a decent pilot (I played BP AoA and WiH R1 on Insane and helped with balancing missions for that difficulty).
Being one of the few people out there who can do all that and actually understand Polish should also help (in fact, I'm a bit worried about testers for SG just for that reason, there are many great testers on HLP, but I don't think many of them speak Polish).
The only downside is that for some reason, I can't access FSPL for some reason (it doesn't seem to like Opera and I'm not going to use IE just for that).

I'm noticing the shivan jumpgate: does this mean that the shivans will meet their end?
