Title: Released Campaigns Thread
Post by: Scotty on July 27, 2010, 08:33:30 pm
Recently re-downloading a lot of older campaigns made me realize something: way too many of them are way too hard to find the most recent release.  Since I'm already searching out most of them, I figured I'd post the most recent links that I can find here to make it easier for everyone else.  I'll do my best to order it alphabetically to keep things easy to find.

NOTICE 1:  Many campaigns have more than one download link for the latest release.  Please check to make sure you download all parts of a campaign.

NOTICE 2:  If you have downloaded the 3.6.12 mediavps, in the mod.ini, change "secondarylist = mediavps;" to "secondarylist = mediavps_3612;" to ensure compatability, provided there is a mod.ini.

Thanks for doing this. It has been somewhat of an ordeal to bring myself up to speed on all the great work that has been put out there. Many of the websites and links I follow when searching for campaigns are broken or abandoned.

Do you mean for this list to be an unbias one or are these campaigns you particularly enjoy?

Heh, I've played... seven of the campaigns on that list.  This is assuredly not a list of only campaigns I enjoy.  I'm still missing a dozen or so, since geocities hosted a few of them and it's gone now, but I'll try to get those soon.

Thank you. I couldn't find them all in the Wiki and apparently there are still many I haven't played. I just need to clear out some storage space.

Thanks- really useful!

awsome work.  a lot of the campaigns i got from the campaign pack don't work, and finding updates has been pretty much impossible.  i would happily make a new, fully updated and tested campaign pack, but i've got no idea how to go about doing that.

Somebody with a lot of time and bandwidth should take all of those, bundle them up into .7z files (1 per campaign) and reupload, or at least keep them all safe somewhere. For the ages and all that.

Actually, what would be more useful is to have wiki pages for each that explain whatever steps are needed to get them running on the current latest version of FSO.

FSCRP is working on the Black Horizon campaigns.  Part of the problem with converting them is the retexture of the ship models used in the original campaign.

Also added a notice reminding people to edit the mod.ini to use mediavps_3612 if they've downloaded them.

Holy ****, really?  Glad I could help then.

Also:  Adding Wings of Dawn to the list pronto.  First time I've had any decent amount of time at a computer since it's come out, and maybe I'll be able to play it sometime soon. :ick:

EDIT:  Also added is the "campaign of the week" section at the top.  If there isn't a new release, I'll pick a halfway decent campaign from the list and post another link near the top for a little more recognition.

You know...

When I want a new campaign, the first place I look is on the Wiki's campaign listings. I'm not saying this is a bad idea at all, but would it be possible to get a drive in to ensure that the campaign listings in the wiki are up to date and have working mirrors for the campaigns they note? Doing that would indeed be quite a chore, but I think it would be worth it. Of course, wiki-editing experience would be nice to have for such a venture...

Post by: Scotty on December 11, 2010, 12:14:20 am
This list has every campaign that's on the wiki (that's been released) (that I know how to find a link to), with a still supported DL link (and quite a few campaigns that aren't on the wiki).  Also has patches if applicable, which I know a good dozen of them don't and you have to dig through the thread to find it.

tl;dr this thread is better, use it. :P

That said, I don't have a wiki account (that I remember), and editting them takes more time than finding the link, making sure it works, and putting it here.

also  the shivans thing under port doesn't work....

Fixed and fixed.

Ugh, I knew I'd missed a nukelol link in there.  All of them have been dead for several months.

Shivans is technically two campaigns.  That is now noted.

Note to anyone who cares:  If you have a campaign or know of a campaign that has been released, is not on this list, and the creator has given permission for a link to be posted,  please PM me the link so I can add it to the list.

That's a huge variety! Please advise which ones are must-try? Except for both BP, WoD, ST: Reborn and Derelict.
Are there any voice-acted campaigns, except for those I listed?

Play VD, Transcend, Windmills, Ridiculous, JAD, DEM, Uncharted Territory, Shrouding the Light, PI. Not necessarily in that order. That should keep you busy for a while.

Any recommendations for Windmills? I get a cross on the screen a small picture of a officer in front of a console and a small sign at the bottom left saying OpenGL something, that's it, not sure what is wrong, I'd try making the 'Easy Setup' reset trick and 'Let the app decide' setting on my ATI HD4670 lateron (I have them all at max since some mods and mediavps_3612 needs it to have full quality on the screen, as I read on a post recommending such settings).

Issues with individual campaigns belong in that campaign's release thread or, if that does not exist, a separate thread about your problem so that it may be dealt with qucikly and effectively.

The Centaur Project Chapters 1 and 2 (and patch) - Broken
Ghosts of Valor - Broken
Neo-Terra - redirect me back to the thread
Rogue Intentions Episode I (and patch) - 404
Solar Wars Chapter 1 - redirect me back to the thread

The others are just fine. Cya and thnx again

Centaur Project (both parts) should be fixed now.

I can't find a working link for Ghosts of Valor (I don't have it on this computer).  If anyone has that, I'd appreciate it.

Direct link for Neo Terra changed to a link to the download page.  Should work now.

Rogue Intentions Episode I link fixed, patch link should still work.

Solar Wars had the same problem as Neo Terra (and indeed is from the same site).  The two now share a link, and Solar Wars is a little higher on the page.

Downloading all links to create mirrors on gameupdates.org; only dead links I'm running into are:

1) All freespacemods.net links except for fsport.freespacemods.net links are DOWN fsmods.net back UP  :)

2) Ghosts of Valor

3) Rogue Intentions Patch Found on fileserver 127.0.0.1

All of them?  That's about 2/3 of the links up there.  ****.  Well, I'll try to find more.

EDIT:  Heading to freespacemods.net without clicking a download link, it just says "Be back soon..."  Should I find more links, or wait for when these ones (hopefully) get back to working again?

Post by: jr2 on May 26, 2011, 03:46:14 pm
Wrong link for Eagle Takes Flight, should be http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.656  not  http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.201

EDIT: freespacemods.net is up again BTW.  :D

EDIT 2: Shivans: Phantoms & Echo Gate should be http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.18 not http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?18 -- direct linking isn't allowed on fsmods.net so that link is broken until changed.

EDIT 3: Cleaning Crew should be on a separate line from The Centaur Project, unless it is part of the Centaur Project.  Also, Dante's Ascension should be http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.733 not http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?733

EDIT 4: Flames of War links to small file, apparently there is a full version which has the other FOW mods as well, it's here (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.29) - ALSO - Flames of War: Coming of the Storm links to the FoW:CotS fix, not the campaign (which is here (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.447))

EDIT 5: Neo-Terra reality is the same as Neo-Terra; it just has a different file order inside -- I extracted the VPs and compared their hashes. ;)

EDIT 6: Odin's Spear should be http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.734 , not http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?734

EDIT 7: Done; all I need now is anything mentioned above and:

2) Ghosts of Valor

3) Rogue Intentions Patch

@Scotty: I didn't mean to come off as overbearing, BTW... I was just in a hurry and making observations.  Of course it is your thread; I was just speaking from my point of view, not trying to take over.  ;)  Just to make sure I'm being clear in my intentions.

EDIT: I posted this because after reading my replies, I noticed that I may have come across as giving a terse list of demands that would make Seven-of-Nine proud.

EDIT2: On a hunch, with a little help from Everything (http://www.voidtools.com/), I searched my hard disk and found ... four copies of the said patch.   Uploaded to MediaFire: here (http://www.mediafire.com/?4ujrn485k8144o2).

Notice to all readers:  I am posting a bounty for links to the following campaigns (or not, but I'd like to find them).  Below is the name, a brief description, what it runs on (FSO/FSP), and the author(s) to give anyone who might have it a good idea of what to look for.

Points of View - Vasudan Campaign, FSP - by Three Niner Mongoose is awarded one internet for finding this campaign.
Vasudan Imperium - Vasudan Campaign, FSP - by Redstreblo Mjn.Mixael is awarded one internet for posting this campaign.
25th Year - ???, FSP - by KolChak and ktistai228 wins one internet for finding this one.
Workings of the Warp - FSO - Orph3u5 Macfie wins the last internet.  Good show everybody.

On another note, recently added:
25th Year (FSP)
Battle for Altair (FSP)
Dark Raji (FSP)
Duke Squad (FSP)
Hellwolf (FSP)
Infinite Dimensions (FSP)
Internal Conflicts (FSP)
New Beginnings (FSP)
Nubian Conflict (FSP)
Second Vasudan War (FSP)
Special Ops (FSP)
Start of the Terran Vasudan War (FSP)
The McCarthy Campaign (FSP)
The Road to Victory (FSP)
Vasudan Academy (FSP)
War (FSP)
Wolfpack Legacy (FSP)
DW (FSP)

So, roughly double the number of FSPort campaigns today.  Woohoo.

You are right about most but not all.  The road to victory and Vasudan Academy for instance are FS1.  The others are listed under the wrong section on freespace mods.net
They should be under FSPort rather than Descent FreeSpace

By the way I uploaded Points of View to freespacemods.net it should be in the downloads section shortly.  I'll post the link as soon as I get it.

I'll actually give this a try. Playing it, that is; not fixing it.
Title: Re: Released Campaigns Thread
Post by: Mongoose on June 09, 2011, 05:38:52 pm
I should check my missions folder for any of those campaigns, along with anything else that might not be on your list.  I downloaded a bunch of random stuff from VWatch a long time ago, but I don't think I ever played through most of it.

Edit: Oh hey, I do have Points of View...two different downloads' worth of it, though the VP file part seems the same.  I'll get it uploaded to MediaFire in a bit. :)

Edit 2: Here you go (http://www.mediafire.com/?eb5u13ohbsydu2i).  The other version I had included a launcher image from Shrouding the Light and a description in the mod.ini, but the campaign VPs were the exact same size.
Title: Re: Released Campaigns Thread
Post by: jr2 on June 10, 2011, 01:52:48 pm
here (http://www.mediafire.com/?axujxqc26jzu2) is a bunch of stuff I found in my archives:

25thyear.zip
conflicts.zip
dukesquad.zip
dw.zip
mcarth.zip
mcarthy.zip (different file!)
new_beginnings.7z
nubianE1.zip
vasuda.zip
victory.zip
war.zip

Most of those (if not all) are what you are looking for AFAIK... there was one or two that were in doubt but I couldn't be arsed to extract, manually load vpview, and then extract the campaign, then open the campaign to check the name.  I might have some of the others too, but the filenames are probably not too obvious.  Found these using the search engine Evertything on my hard disks.

You should update the "casualties of war" link with this one:

http://www.mediafire.com/?z183gp1fraf5z4z

the old one is not SCP compatible.

Here is the thread of reference:

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=74695.new#new

I also suggest perhaps mirroring it on a more permanent host since mediafire deletes files after a long time.

It seems that the FSMods post contains a link to what would probably have been the core files, but the link is broken.

Which AV soft?  Maybe ditch it and get Microsoft Security Essentials (Free) / Avast Free / AVG Free / Avira Personal AV?

EDIT: you can also double-check your current AV software by scanning with Clamwin AV (free AV that only scans on demand, it does not stay resident, and thus can co-exist with your current AV).

Trend Micro Office-scan.  It's mandatory for connecting to my university wifi, and it's telling me fsmods is blocked.  Nothing I can do about it unless I don't want to be able to access the internet at all for the entire semester.

1) Mediafire is a terrible place to host things.

2) saying "bump" once is more than enough.

3) I have no ability to access decent links and add them to the first post.  One of the mods has been doing it lately, for which I am profoundly grateful.

4) When I update this, it's because I feel like it, not because I'm obligated to do it.  The list exists because I wanted to make it, not because I had to make it.

5) Calm down.

Savvy?

Wouter, not to be harsh or anything, (nor do I wish to derail this thread any further):

But what? the hell? Even for your usual, that last post did not make much sense.

And for (&*(%(#$&)(#@ sake, if you are going to post a reply within ten minutes of your last post, MODIFY the previous one. That is OKAY to do, especially if nobody has made any other posts SINCE yours.

This double, triple and quadruple posting in a manner of minutes (especially when it starts getting un-readable) needs to stop.

I know my post makes it seem otherwise, but it's not that I don't feel like updating it.  It's that I can't reliably access the requisite links to do so and provide up to date and quality campaign downloads.  Mongoose, I think, took care of it a few times a few months ago, and I wouldn't mind another mod doing the same, so long ast they keep it roughly alphabetical and links formatted correctly.

"The Aftermath" has also been released fairly recently.  The original creator was Herkie Del Socorro and was updated for modern play by Cyborg17.

Two things to note:

-This campaign is not to be confused with "Aftermath".  "Aftermath" takes place between FS1 and FS2 and "The Aftermath" takes place three years post-FS2

-To play "The Aftermath" you'll need the 2014 MediaVPs and also the current version of Blue Planet installed

Well, I've downloaded all the FSP mods on here that work, here's a list of the links in that section which are totally broken:

Alliance Fights Back
Duke Squad
DW
Eagle Takes Flight
Hellwolf
Marduk's Shroud
The McCarthy Campaign
Memories of the Great War
Shivans

If anybody could possibly give me working links to these mods I would greatly appreciate it.

Also ... the mod pack I got from the Dark Raji link doesn't seem to work at all with FSO, none of the campaigns or missions contained show up in game after I activate the mod ... guessing it has something to do with the files being .fs2 instead of .vp.  Could somebody please point me towards a utility that will allow me to convert these files into modern .vp ones?

Some here:

For Dark Raji.
Move files .fs2 and fc2. inside Dark Raji\data\missions (create folders if they don't exist).
But this campaign was created long time ago and may be incompatible with recent fsport, mediavps or fso.

Few tools for creating .vp are mentioned here:
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/*.VP (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/*.VP)

Note: As a normal player you don't need to pack the files in vp's. It's just a good modder practice to use vp's to avoid having lots of folders and files and avoid data corruption.

It has been pointed out to me that the links for the Memories of the Great War-downloads are dead ends ... considering there is an entirely new set of the FS_Port and MediaVps to update them to, I will not be providing a replacement at this time (and there is an intellectual property-issue a younger version of me never cared about I have to adress) ...

But once I have locked down my current FREDing on Of Shivans and Men, I will see to it to provide an updated version as soon as humanly possible

Hey, I've got a suggestion, maybe somehow mark the ones available on Knossos? Actually, maybe we could use a :knossos: emote and just insert it in proper places on this list?
I suppose someone could also go through topics and websites of these campaigns and link to them, that could come in useful for someone.
Besides, there's a couple releases recently that could use listing here too for the sake of completeness. Namely: Exile: Into The Dark Waters (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94094.0), Mantle (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=95267), Trimurti (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94689.0), the upgraded Sol: A History and Friends and Foes: Retribution (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=93581.0). I can't seem to find any topic related to the upgrade of S:AH though.

Someone could get the released campaigns Wiki up to date using this topic too.

I'd been hoping for a while to get Lost it's own article and connect it to the circulated campaign/mod lists. I think the original authors should write wiki articles whenever possible. May I get a wiki account/permission to write up an article for Lost?

PM Goober to get an account on the wiki. :)

Aside that, there was a call to improve things ( https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94633.0 ), a good part of that are campaign-related things IIRC.

Ran into an odd bug with Vassago's Dirge through Knossos in what seems to be an uncapped framerate problem? Missions 1 & 2 run like they're being time compressed even though the speed is x1.

How would that be even possible?

Ok, so comparing missions I think it's just that the Shivan weapons have been altered to shoot rapid fire. They cause a hit stun effect on your fighter that's not always present in other campaigns.

Any chance to add Gehenna's Gate (http://) and The Spirit of Ptah (https://wiki.hard-light.net/index.php/The_Spirit_of_Ptah) to the list?
