I know you've never seen a show of Babylon5, so I'll not laugh  

That is the equivilant of Freespaces subspace (I think B5 calls it hyperspace) and it has a habit of moving around and changing quite violently, and it looks fantastic in the shows (it looks great in the pic, but it's not moving so you can't get the full effect)
