238k polys... My God.

It needs LODs, debris, prorably reworked hierarchy at some point to add detailboxes. Maybe texture bake?
Anyway it's totally stunning. I've never seen a model for FS engine of THAT quality :D!. Man, you are such a boss at making this things!

Now THIS is what I call proper modeling :)
Yes ultra high poly count....means I need a Quantum Computer to run a proper Freespace 2 with models of this caliber :)

Truly a benchmark to follow :)

Re: Federal Navy revision project
Actually, polycount doesn't kill performance nearly as much as number of textures... which is excessive on Hyperion, too. :) That said, with the latest engine enhancements, I'd expect it to run OK-ish, as long as you don't spam it.

I have to agree it's really a wonderful model, though. I always loved all those little details and the great attention paid to them. The hangar bay is amazing and the details on the prow really blew me away. :)

BTW, any chance of getting some tables and FX for the new gun, Steve-O? Others were available here and there (with the old Hyperion and Vexor, or with the fighters), but the LMAG is new.

...except when it comes to things like collision detection. On the plus side, you can set a lower LOD to be used for collision detection.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
You could, if it had LODs. :) Still, wasn't collision detection recently optimized to make that less of a problem?

Not to my knowledge, no.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
Its been a while since I actually touched it. If I recall the hull it's self was assembled to work on a detail box system. Never had time to fully implement it. If time is kind I'll see what I can do....I'm a bit rusty at this anymore.
As for FX for the weapons I'll try and roll those out sooner than 2 years.
