Regardless, it's pretty clear that a huge amount of update potential has grinded to a halt.

TBH, in-game it looked utterly identical to the low-poly model.

For a lot of ships, especially fighters it is very hard to see them up close. Sure they look nice in screen shots and renders but a lot of the HTL fighters look very similar. IMO it is only the capships which really stand out, and are the ones which show why HTL upgrades are so very nice.
