Sounds good!   I was hoping to get some material to you but this caught me by surprise.

Don't worry we will get it into 2.1 or whatever the next version is.  I'll probably be making a 2.01 alpha soon that is compatible with 3.6.13 for developmental purposes.

Why do I need to run Zathras through FSO 3.6.12?  I thought the Babylon Project was a standalone.

You need a 3.6.12 (Inferno) build. That means getting a 3.6.12 build (the .exe) and placing it to your \tbp\ folder.

It does NOT mean cramming your TBP to your FSO installation.

TBP is standalone but it uses the FS2_Open engine as do other projects.  We keep TBP updated and the SCP keeps updating and adding features to FS2_Open.  Up to this point the FS2_Open exes were included but since there are now different builds for windows as well as other platforms it's better just to allow downloading by the user.

I see.  The only reason why I wasn't sure about using the FSO 3.6.12 engine to run TBP is because I still have the FSO 3.6.9 builds in my TBP folder from when I first got TBP.  The reason I thought TBP used a different build is because for some reason, when I initially downloaded TBP, the 3.6.9 build had an icon had a picture of "TBP" on it instead of the regular FSO icon for all subsequent builds.

Yeah, the 3.6.9 icon for TBP had this logo on it:

This led me to believe it was different than the regular 3.6.9 FSO engine.

Actually it was.  It was a branch off of 3.6.9 that included some 3.6.10 and BTRL code. That code was merged into 3.6.10.  If you look at some of the builds (the FRED ones I believe) they have BTRL logo instead of TBP.

Yeah, I had noticed that as well.  BTRL 3.6.9 builds had a Cylon Basestar as their icon logo.

Hi

I noticed that installing Zathras 2.0 and the 3.6.12_INF Freespace Open executable seems to have broken the "Battle of the Line" mission :(  Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a fix?

Would this be the Battle of the Line from the Earth-Minbari War Demo?  If so, is it the first or second part?  Also, does it crash or does the mission fail to progress and just go on without end.

Works fine here.  Try a new pilot file since it's a red-alert mission and corrupted pilot files like to show up in those.  If that doesn't work select the debug build, run the mission, and post the FS2_Open.log from your data directory along with a better description of the problem.

Well, I've had problems with the BotL-mission included in the Heat-'em-up pack. The mission CTDs when I launch it from the tech room.
Before I post the log, however, I'm gonna re-install the whole thing and see when problems start showing up. I'll get back to you.

Hi

Just to clarify; the "Battle of the Line" mission I am on about is the one installed with the Babylon Project DVD, found in "Tech Data" -> "Mission Simulator" -> "Single Missions".

The problem still occurs when I create a brand new pilot file.  Regarding the comment about "Red Alert" missions, I have played the "Fall of Night" mission, also a "Red Alert", with no error.

When I use the regular build (i.e. "fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe"), I get my desktop back and a dialog box with the following text during the "loading mission" graphic:

Malloc Failed!

<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>

I am offered the choice to "Exit" (click "CANCEL") or "break into debugger" (click "OK", which continues loading the mission).  If I try to continue loading the mission, the mission starts but I get the above error message again less than 5 seconds into the mission.

When I use the Debugger build (i.e. "fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF_SSE2.exe"), when the error occurs during the "loading mission" screen, the dialog box that appears contains the following text:

Could not load replacement texture sheridan-01b for ship alpha 1

<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! SCP_DumpStack + 354 bytes
<no module>! Warning + 430 bytes
<no module>! parse_object + 5671 bytes
<no module>! parse_objects + 192 bytes
<no module>! parse_mission + 505 bytes
<no module>! parse_main + 449 bytes
<no module>! mission_load + 215 bytes
<no module>! game_start_mission + 198 bytes
<no module>! game_enter_state + 482 bytes
<no module>! gameseq_set_state + 310 bytes
<no module>! game_process_event + 242 bytes
<no module>! gameseq_process_events + 152 bytes
<no module>! game_main + 782 bytes
<no module>! WinMain + 330 bytes
<no module>! __tmainCRTStartup + 358 bytes
<no module>! WinMainCRTStartup + 15 bytes
<no module>! RegisterWaitForInputIdle + 73 bytes

Usually, attempting to "Break into Debugger" (clicking "YES") or "Continue" (clicking "NO") after this just crashes the game, bringing up the standard Microsoft Windows application error box.

I have attached the "fs2_open.log" produced when trying to run this mission using the Debug build.

One thing I see right away is a likely Texture Replacement problem: there is no "sheridan-01b" in the core files, just "sheriden-01b."

Having recently had my HDD die.  I started with a fresh install.  I can't create a pilot profile.  I get this error.
Verify failure: Vbuf0 != NULL

<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>

I wasn't sure weather to post this in the SCP or here.  given that I am only having this prob with TBP I posted here.

For the pilot creation there is a sticky about manually creating it in the TBP forum.

As for the other mission I'll look into it when I get a chance.

I get a couple of texture replacement and team out of range warnings on the mission file but nothing that would break the mission.  Run the debug build again and hit no to continue.  If it crashes post the fs2_open.log.

Hi

Tried again...

With a "Normal" 3.6.12 INF build, I can actually get as far as the Star Fury cockpit if I keep pressing "OK" at the dialog boxes.  The immediate problem noticeable with the mission is that the iconic speech from the President of Earth is missing.

When I use the Debug build, I get a total of 3 dialog boxes during the loading screen with "YES", "NO", and "Cancel" buttons.  When I press "NO" to continue on all three of these boxes I get a fourth dialog box with two buttons "OK" and Cancel".  When I press "OK" to continue on this last dialog box, the game crashes and the standard Microsoft Windows XP application error message appears.

I have attached the "fs2_open.log" file produced by the debug build.

OK I was able to reproduce the problem but only in 3.6.12.  Current 3.6.13 trunk doesn't crash but I don't get the speech either.  Wondered why there was 2 minutes of nothing at the beginning of the mission.  I'll continue to look into this.

So is Zathras 2.0 in combination with 3.6.12 stable enough to release it on the main page? Maybe in an archive with the 5.5g launcher? I mean, I'm quite a newbie here and all these options are difficult to swallow ;)...

Hi

Just want to give a big "Thank You" to user Wesp5 for discovering the reason behind the error I was getting in the Battle Of The Line mission.  The fix is detailed in a post in the thread regarding his unofficial patch for the Star Fury Pilot Missions which can be found at http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72061.0.

Following his advice, I have extracted the file "\voice\personas\presidentEMW.ogg" from the VP file "B5SFP.vp" in the Babylon Project root folder and converted it from stereo to mono using an audio conversion utility.  I then placed this converted file in a subfolder of my "Zathras\data" called "voice\personas" so that it gets used in preference to the original.

Since the fixed file is not actually included in Wesp5's patch, I have attached it to this post for the benefit of other users who don't have the VP file extraction and audio conversion utilities handy on their machines.

The fixed file will be included in the 1.2 version of the patch with some other 3.6.12 fixes. I just want to play each mission through once more before I release it.

Thanks to E there is a newer stereo version and now the code will detect problems with the sound files.  Newest version can be found here:  presidentEMW.ogg (http://fubar.org/TBP/presidentEMW.ogg)

Yo! Umm I did a fresh install of TBP from the DVD and extracted Zathras 2.0 to the TBP Folder.
Now, when I try to lauch TBP with Z activated I see the first startup screen but then the screen goes black and at the background is waiting this debug message

No actually the one that came with the DVD fs2_open_3_6_9 and fs2_open_3_6_9_INF, tried launching from both of 'em.

Well Ef U Cee Kei. I just read the first post of this thread more carefully and noticed that build requirement.
I read from another topic that it's not compatible with 12 but it was on the testing phace. GAH!

Edit: Meaning that it works now. Now just to make a profile for it into my X52

Hi. TBP noob here.
Just downloaded and installed, configured, launched & did pilot training with the 2 part TBP DVD. Great stuff - we are all B5 aficionados here, so this was a real happy experience.

Not so good, so far, is Zathras 2.0

D'ld & extracted to the TBP folder. Opened the FS2 Open Launcher 5.5b that came with TBP DVD & went to the MOD tab & selected the Zathras folder by hitting 'Select MOD'. Zathras picture comes up - great so far. Hit 'Apply', then 'Run' and get the same error message reported by Gortef above.

Now, the launcher is running 'fs2_open _3_6_9_INF.exe', as per TBP main game. It now seems that this is NOT the right build? If not, can someone explain which one to use, where to get it and how to install it in TBP folder so the launcher will 'see' it (assuming that it is more than a simple extraction or cut & paste. I note that the launcher DOESN'T 'see' the fred2_open_3_6_9 builds in the TBP folder - that's why I mention this - just trying to anticipate.)

Thanks guys for the great work. Between this, Freespace open, and Homeworld upcoming - I'm a bit overloaded, but a pig in mud (I won't mention Silent Hunter over at SubSim - that's a whole other story!) Just got to figure out how to get some or all of this running on a MacBook Pro, so my boys can start networking on our wireless LAN.

As an aside, both my boys are so taken by all the amazing modding work that they are seeing here, that they are genuinely asking how they can get in to it and learn how to Mod so they, too, can contribute. They are always dreaming up scenarios and designing ships, so, why not? Just wanted you to know that you have inspired at least a couple of noobies to get involved. Thanks.

AFAIK (and I could be wrong here) TBP Official requires 3.6.9 builds.

Zathras however will run with the (and potentially REQUIRES) SCP Official 3.6.12 Builds (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70692.0).

Yes as step 3 of the install instructions show you need to download 3.6.12 inferno for Zathras 2.0.

Thanks, Wilco.
Yolu must get tired of idiots not reading instructions (I'm missing all sorts of things like that at the moment - information overload, I'm afraid).

Still, no one listens to Zathras, right?
