Uhh...I ran fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF (I think that's what u're talking about)  and instead of running, my screen flickered and it popped up this.

That's part of it. Now go to FreeSpace2/data/, grab the file called fs2_open.log, and post the contents here in code tags.

I'm 85% sure that your mediavps_3612 are corrupt, incomplete, or did not download correctly.

Yeah, the 3.6.12 MediaVPs didn't download correctly. Could you redownload them?

Does your connection tend to drop or anything? Something seems to be particularly flaky about the MVPs.

Sure, I'll get 'em manually this time.  My internet connection is fairly steady, I'm on cable through road runner on a wireless network, and the only times I'm on a system outage is when the powers out:P, check back when I'm done.

Ok, I downloaded the 3.6.12 mediavps, i did the maximum one, and overwrote the 3.6.12 files i had.  It didn't add any new .vp's, and the amazon drone is still invisible.

You should have the following files located in your mediavps_3612 folder:

mv_root
mv_assets
mv_effects
mv_advanced (optional)
3613 update.

Make sure these files are all present, right there, not located in a subfolder inside mediavps_3612. Then make sure you have mediavps_3612 selected as a mod in the launcher.

3.6.10 is not as good as 3.6.12.

To fix your problem, go into mediavps_3612. You'll probably see ANOTHER folder called mediavps_3612. Take everything out of that second one and put them in the first one.

ure right, there was a second folder, fixed almost everything.  i still have a big graphicy box that pops up around missiles when they're fired, is that one of the graphics options that i need to enable/disable?

Please follow the advice found here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.0 to generate an fs2_open.log. In addition, please post screenshots.

It can, under some circumstances. I would also recommend not using mv_advanced.
