The caveat is that if faster-than-light is possible, then our relativistic theorems have already ceased to hold--you'd be looking at a different model with a different understanding of spacetime and causality.

Where Freespace is concerned I'd just posit that a subspace jump takes more time in the destination reference frame than would have traveled backwards, such that the jumper always arrives in the future.
