Recently downloaded Blue Planet: AoA. Everything worked. No problems whatsoever.
Tried to play Blue Planet, WiH, game won't even open and I get nothing but error messages.

I have all of my Freespace 2 SCP installed on a separate SSD drive that is NOT my boot drive.

You're using a version from 2012, download BP complete from the installer or here.

I'm still in the process of learning all of this stuff. I download the FSO launcher and it's just a bunch of .class files in folders.
What do I do with those?

 
Well, for starters, that's the installer, not the launcher. And you need to run the .jar file using java, rather than open it to view the contents.

The launcher or the installer? Wxlaucnher isn't java based AFAIK and shouldn't have any .class files. With the installer you just run the .ja

Last time I downloaded the files there and tried to run them I got the same error messages I'm getting now.

You don't have mediavps_3612 or blueplanet which are needed for this old version or they've been installed to differently named folders. If the new version also gives you errors you probably don't have MediaVPs_2014 either.

If you have those mods but renamed them then modify the mod.ini to point to the renamed folders. If you have them but the game is still giving you errors then please post a fs2_open_log using the latest BP Complete release version.

How do I modify a ini file?
I'm just confused because the way I have things arranged, it should work but it doesn't.
I normally just select the folder with the mods in it and it runs. All the mods I have played have worked this way, but now it says the mods aren't there?

Just go to this top of the forum and download bpcomplete. That's all you need. Whatever you're trying to play is years out of date.
