My cutscenes are suddenly grayscale. Happens on all mods and FSO builds including the Blue planet specific ones. Gameplay is normal, though.

Just cutscenes or everything? Check what your post-processing table saturation setting is set to.

Indeed. Only a log can tell us why, though.

I do have difficulty seeing how it could break though, given that it is a very very simple shader, and running it depends on the entire graphics init portion of the engine having run without tripping any of the emergency "disable shaders now" fallbacks.

Sorry for the late reply. Exams and all. I was playing blue planet with the debug BP build with also crashed before going to the menu. The gray scale cutscenes happen with all mods and FS2 builds as fas as I can see.

Can you try starting the exe with the "-no_glsl" parameter ("Disable GLSL (shader) support" in the launcher's Troubleshooting section)?

That worked. But why? I'm a long time player and this hasn't happened before. Could I have messed up something in the game folders?

Okay, the situation is this. In order to display movies, we need to convert them from YUV to RGB. This can be done on the CPU, if the source material is retail quality (1024x768 or lower), but runs into issues with 720p or 1080p material (like what Diaspora is using). In order to solve this problem, we're using a shader to process and convert the images, this is a very simple operation and should not fail ever, assuming shaders are supported at all.

However, for some reason, this process fails in your case. Why, I can't figure out, because if you can use shaders for model rendering, your GPU and driver should be more than sufficient to run the colorspace conversion shader.

You could try updating your video card drivers? (although from wikipedia + the reported OpenGL version I suspect you might already be on a recent version)

Also, what was the last version of FSO you used that that worked correctly?

My GPU drivers are up to date.
I'm using the BP AVX build which seems like the latest(timestamp of the latest update should be posted in the build repository thread to avoid confusion).
I looked around a little bit and found no answers as to why this may happen. Maybe I wasn't using the right keywords. I'll post if I find an answer.
I'll also try another mod with the latest nightly.

Update: I enabled the shaders while using the 3.7.2 build and the problem doesn't exist anymore.
