Title: [Release] Fall of Epsilon Pegasi 1.1 - Voice Acted
Post by: fightermedic on November 12, 2011, 04:09:23 pm
update: The download link is updated to version 1.1 which includes some of the feedback in this thread!

Greetings dear HLP community,
while the Aquitane battles Shivans in the nebula beyond Gamma Draconis, the Epsilon Pegasi 6th Fleet must defend against the attacks of the Neo-Terran Front...

today i'd like to present you the highly enjoyable and sadly quite overlooked campaign "Fall of Epsilon Pegasi".
Originally done by legendary freder Blaise Russel in 2005 this gem has now been voice acted by me and some other brave souls.
I can only highly encourage everyone to play this one, i think you will enjoy it as much as i do :)
some roles are done through TTS voices still, of which one will be upgraded to a real actor in the near future, but this doesn't spoil the fun in the least, as they are so few that i could use my best voices only, and while of course not a as good as real actors, they are not bad

now, have the download link, after all thats what you here for, isn't it?
this campaign comes with its own mod folder
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9mtsx2q3jiudmt5

credit goes to:
Blaise Russel for doing the campaign in the first place, of course ;)
Son of Orion, for doing some very immersive acting! beware alpha 3
Darkblade, for being just an awesome actor as Admiral Wilson!
rbxplayer 'Clive Scerri', for acting more than one char, and doing it great!
bigchunk1 for not liking TTS so much that he just had to voice one char himself
Black Wolf for showing that you can help very much even if you do only a few lines!
and in advance to Dekker for delaying the campaign for two months through sheer determination to participate in this campaign  ;7
oh, and myself i guess for voicing one char (ok-ish...) and organizing the whole thing

if there are any bugs, like invalid attatched sound files in the campaign please report them :)

have fun killing NTF scum

He was on Game Warden recently, so I figure he is.

I haven't played through too far yet, but I'm pretty sure you are not meant to be given tornado missles in the second mission.

There's a bit of a difference between Hornets and Tornados....

Here is a partial list of bugs I have found during my playthrough:

The Great Hunt:  Hornet missles are unavalible, replaced by the not-yet-produced tornado missles.
The End Times:  The formula used for calculating the current hull intergerty the Impunity and the Pvoidence appears to be flawed - both ships had over 100% hull when I played through the mission.
Spoiler:
Exodus:  The treasonus civilian vessels might be better served using the purple-colored IFF.  Not only would this let your targeting computer distinguish between them and the traitors who are actually a valid threat, but it would also keep them from shooting at stuff when they just want to escape with their lives.  (The loyalist civilians, of course, should still get attacked)
Spoiler:
Last Chance: The GTVA corvette at the end appears to be missing a line of voice acted dialogue (the very first line)

In one mission briefing I ran into a mission briefing that had a paragraph of dialogue voide acted, but not subtitled.  I can't seem to find that particular line, though.

I also recall seeing tornado missiles available for use in other missions besides The Great Hunt, but I just can't recall which ones.

This is by no means a complete list, but it highlights some of the more glaring bugs.

Hot damn, it's finally out. I'm gonna have to redownload Freespace and the SCP, though, since my PC crashed before and I lost everything. :C. Argh, I can't wait to play this.

I really enjoyed doing voice work for this. I just hope others find my performance satisfactory. :) Unfortunately, I am currently unable to voice act, because my last mic broke and I need to buy a new one. Other projects I'm interested in will have to wait.

It got wiped, unfortunately. No worries, it was nothing I couldn't recover from.

if somebody could tell me what mission this it that would be cool

good idea about the unknown iff, i have changed that, along with most of the other things you reported

@son of orion, you are going to like the campaign, believe me ;)

May I just say this is totally awesome :D

The voice acting is great and although it sounds like a small thing it adds so much!

I'm in the third mission now. No problems yet. I'm really enjoying it so far. Darkblade did a fantastic job as Wilson.

Now, as for Alpha 2...I'm gonna be honest here. Your voice was, eh, quite monotone and stilted. The performance didn't feel natural. I'm sorry; you did an excellent job organizing this. I really enjoyed working with you, and I only wish to help you further!

no offense taken, i'm quite aware that i'm simply not good at talking, that is nothing restricted to voice acting ;)

I need MediaVPs to play this campaign?!

LIES!! :hopping:

I played through the entire campaign a couple of days ago without.  So why is that listed as a requirement?

Why wouldn't you play with the MVPs in the first place ?

so far so good

a few things to get fix:
mission 4 lacks debriefing
Spoiler:
the one where you destroy the rook.
mission 7 stage 1 briefing wav file includes a speech of a previous mission, seems you forgot to cut that part from the original audio file.

Aside from that, everything else seems quite correct.

thank you for the feedback, i will change that problem with misssion 7 :)
mission 4 is intended that way i'd say, after all there is no need for a debriefing as everything is said in the following missions briefing

true, I just pointed it out because the default string displayed by fs "no debriefing for mission x" makes it look like a bug, even a simple 2 or 3 word line would be best than that IMO.
I'll report back if I find anything else.

I for one liked Alpha 2's acting. Does a good job of making his dialogue with Prickles come across as friendly teasing. I think if you played him too seriously, he'd just be an asshole.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Hornet/Tornado mixup. 6th Fleet is struggling logistically; maybe they just decided keeping their remaining strike craft armed and intact to be more important than keeping an early Tornado test batch under wraps or something. It's not like you can rearm in the second mission.

The cruisers helping destroy the Rook never fired any beams. I never thought to check if they were being disarmed or simply broken before I had the chance to take out the Rook's forward turrets but it kind of defeats the point of them being there.

Oddly enough, when I ordered all fighters to attack the Rook on that mission, it fired away. I think you actually command it...for some reason. :P

I enjoyed the campaign.  I especially like the end battle.  It had lots of ships and kept you on the edge of your seat.
