I wanted to like Log Horizon a lot, but then it ended up being "Not Sword Art Online: the anime". 
That's actually a pretty high selling point in my book. SAO was...painful, to put it charitably.
SAO is considerably less painful if you just stop watching and pretend it doesn't exist after the first arc. Then it becomes a slightly above average shounen power fantasy, instead of... what we got. I guess if you really like that concept and want to watch something that isn't hate-watch levels of bad, go ahead, but it was thoroughly uninteresting to me after the first six episodes.
Honestly, even the first arc was pretty dire. From the beginning it reeks of Gary Stu otaku wish-fulfillment, and the overall premise shows that the original author (Reki Kawahara) didn't have a clue as to how massively-multiplayer games or personal technology actually work. ("Sure, let's have a product capable of emitting
fatal doses of microwaves right next to the user's skull somehow make it to market, and then let's have nobody be able to come up with the half-dozen trivial ways to disable them over the course of two years, because reasons!"). I generally have a pretty healthy ability to suspend disbelief, but when you set your story in our own near future and then don't even bother to consider the ramifications of what you're proposing, you'll lose me very quickly.
