Well, here's a thing, I need some ships for a campaign of mine, but no such ships exist. Now, as I know everybody's busy doing something, I've came to an idea of trying and making the ship myself. I never modeled anything before but I think I can figure it out, the only program is, I don't know which program I can / should use, so can anyone recommend one?

If Blender doesn't work, see if you can find some old versions of Blender (somewhere reputable, don't go downloading **** off random download sites, find their IRC channel and ask there if need be). It sounds like your hardware is pretty old, especially when it comes to graphics software it's more likely to run something that was contemporary.

I've successfully used 3ds Max on hardware worse than that (well, there was a proper GPU...). I'd certainly expect Blender to work (as said, an older version if not the current), even if your setup puts a limit on how complicated and fancy things you can comfortably do with it. But if you have no prior experience anyway, that shouldn't be a huge problem.

What sort of ship do you need? I'm not opposed to anyone learning to model, but it's a big, complicated skill to learn, and your first few efforts are likely to not be very good (no offense, that's just how it is for everyone. There might be something you're unaware of that could be modified for your purposes.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna try out blender, hope it works. BTW, the ship I'm talking about is like something a bunch of pirates would make from scrapped materials and stuff. Low-poly, of course, no more detailed than maybe the original Hecate.

Edit: Well, unfortunately you were right about blender, it does not work with my GPU. I'm gonna try others later this day.
Edit #2: Older versions of blender didn't work either, and 3ds max won't even install.

Wardog, you might try one of the older versions of Wings3D located here:

the versions go back to the beginning and one of these should work on your system specs.

I'll try older versions of wings tomorrow. And, what do you think of sketch up? I remember running it on some poor hardware and should run on this pc too.

Wardog, Never used Sketch up before. So can't comment.

Betrayal, yeah I'm getting the nerve to tackle Blender now as I need more options for working my modeling.

Yer the killer on your spec list is the 256mb intel integrated, if you can afford it a low end (Read 512mb or preferably 1gb) Geforce or AMD/ATI you will get a lot more applications to play nice.

That said I dont know if you tried blender 2.49b, 2.5 had a massive overhaul of how it worked so 2.49 may be more friendly to your system spec.  I have the windows version uploaded to mediafire from when I was finding it hard to transition to the 2.5+ interface and wanted to make sure I was always going to be able to reinstall it.

I have already started saving up some money and I plan to get an actual GPU, probably Geforce, and I hope I'll have enough money to afford one soon.

Here's the current progress I've done in wings. Its like 20 mins worth of progress, I still have to add a few more parts, some details, fighterbays and a lot of turrets.
