Hi guys i recently got this re-downloaded after a bit of a hiatus from gaming anyhow's i wanted to use my old usb sidewinder joystick as it has been for a long time one of the most comfortable and reliable joysticks for me to use, however i do have a small issue, i don't have a roll axis only pitch and bank + throttle is there any way to either enable or mod a file to allow auto roll ? Thanks in advance

all the best

What do you mean by "auto roll"?
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Codethulhu GitHub wgah'nagl fhtagn.

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

I suspect he means automatically roll back to level, aka autoleveling. Either that or he means he wants to make it so that when he yaws, his craft rolls into the turn and rolls back to level when he stops turning.

Check if anything is bound to the roll and what is bound to the throttle. It's possible the game got confused and didn't bind roll to the twist control on your joystick.

This was what i meant when i yaws i wanted the craft to auto roll with the yaw and roll level when i stop my yaw as i say the old sidewinder joystick does not have a twist function so there is nothing to bind the roll to, hence why i was wondering if there was an option to auto roll, either that or somehow bind the roll and yaw to the same axis ?

Late, but I know what you're referring to. In the FreeSpace engine, yawing left or right automatically generates a roll, which is better than XWA's engine of perfect X rotation. You're asking for a straight turn with a small amount of roll, akin to "negotiating the turn" as it's known in atmospheric craft. I believe that is impossible to do. You cannot bind roll and yaw to the same axis, either, and even if you could that would never work.
