Title: Battuta writes novel, gets published
Post by: The E on January 28, 2015, 09:02:09 am
As you may or may not know, General Battuta has written and sold a novel, which is slated to be released in September of this year. Here are the US and UK covers:

....If only there was a way to get the UK cover with the original title and without that tagline....

already on my amazon list of buys oh yeah

e: I understand why the UK has scrapped the "Boru Cormorant", it always seemed a tad weird title for me (the way I always mumbled its "sounds", can't explain it very well in english), but the simpler "THE TRAITOR" is just awful. It's hollywoodesque B style. Why did they let them do this? Sigh.

I don't like the second one... I feel the mask is too.. garish?  and the flames behind it seem to be a copy of Hunger Games, plus the shortening of the title seems to make it lose some of its mystique.

Oh well.  At least the first is awesome (second isn't bad, it just doesn't seem as original or as attention grabbing / deep / mystical as the first).

Yes, the UK cover is Games Of Throneish, while the first one is more Banksian. I have never read or watched GoT so you can guess where my aesthetical loyalties lie.

The US cover is indeed far better than the UK cover. Also, congratulations Battuta.

Why are the covers so different? Is the US book market really that different to the UK book market, or is it simply two different publishers wanting to put their own stamp on it?

Well, as a resident of the UK, I think the US cover is much, much better. It's really good, really attention grabbing imo. I think it would stand out shelved with other books while the UK one would not.

Is the text inside both books the same, or are there any differences between the two books as well?

I almost forgot that I had already pre-ordered this (fortunately, Amazon reminds you when you've already bought something).

I also agree that the UK cover looks decidedly... off. Good thing I live in 'MURICA, I guess.

According to the Amazon page (http://www.amazon.com/Traitor-Baru-Cormorant-Seth-Dickinson/dp/0765380722/), the hardcover is 384 pages.

Aaaand, wishlisted. Congrats, Battuta!

Anybody know if there's some sort of omnibus of 'Ttuta's short stories anywhere, or if they're only in those magazines?

Just out of curiosity, looking at that title, is there supposed to be a reference to this (if it is, I see what you did there :
(if for some reason you don't want to watch this amazing video all the way through, skip to 1:00 min)

There is no dedicated short story collection of Tutta's words.
