Bug with FSPort, ST:Exodus Mission
Hi,

I wasn't certain where to post this, so please move to an appropriate place is this isn't suitable.  I've searched the forums and couldn't find this listed, so if I've duplicated this, again please direct me appropriately.

The issue I've found is with the Exodus mission of Silent Threat (I'm running the FS1 Port, v3.03).  Shortly after entering the mission (usually about the point the mesage about the Krios' destruction starts) the game freezes (though audio continues) and then crashes to the desktop and causes a "send report to MS" dialog.

Is there anything (like FRED perhaps?) that I can do as a workaround or a way to force a level skip.  I should probably also point out that I have tried using the cheat mode to set all the objectives to complete and then jumping out, but this too causes the game to crash.

Thanks in advance

What version of FS2\FS2_Open are you using?

Have you tried running the debug build to give us a better clue as to the problem.

Hello kajorama,

I'm running FSO v 3_6_9, tried the debug and it does the same thing. The error log isn't greatly helpful, but I've copied the initial block below.

fs2_open_3_6_9_debug caused an Access Violation in module fs2_open_3_6_9_debug.exe at 001b:0056f51b.

Re: Bug with FSPort, ST:Exodus Mission
Does anybody know if there's a simple way to force it past this mission or even if that is worth trying ?

Re: Bug with FSPort, ST:Exodus Mission
It is possible to skip missions fairly easily but I'd rather know what is the cause of your bug.

Might be worth someone bouncing this over to the SCP forum where one of the other coders might spot it :)

Re: Bug with FSPort, ST:Exodus Mission
I have to admit, I'm more than a little curious (being a coder by profession myself).  It's far too reproducable to be just a chance occurence, but I'm also keen to keep playing.

I'll just have to stay patient and see if I can discern any more info about it in the meantime :)

Re: Bug with FSPort, ST:Exodus Mission
Just like to say I'm having the exact same problem.  I was playing through consecutive levels, and got to Exodus, and played it about 3 times (it's hard!) and then gave up, and shut off fs2_open.  Upon restarting it, and picking up where I left off, the problem occurs.  Is it because it uses information from the previous mission somehow that got lost during the restart?  It is strange thoguh that everything appears to be jsut fine for a few seconds, before it crashes to the desktop.  I did try a "replay last mission" and then move on to the next, and it still crashes.  Odd that it worked several times before, so long as I didn't close the game....
