Does anyone know if there ore secret weapons in fs1?  I remeber looking through the root.vp file and seeing a weapon called the Railgun. Is there a way you can unlock it, or is that just another leftover from the game desingers. I was wondering about a few weapons from fs2.  Some weapons mentioned on this site I dont remember getting (Kayser-Trebuche-Circe) Do you have to do something special to unlock them?

I also wanted to ask about a mission in fs2. (i bummed a copy from my dad :P)  Its one of the optional missions.  I puts you in the middle of an emp cloud, and you have to follow navbouys.  Now I followed those navbouys fo about 2 hours, and nothing turned up but a crapload of shivans.  What am I supposed to do?  The nav bouys arent even moving

You're supposed to find Lt. Commander Snipes. Just follow the buoys (there's four or five of them), and you'll find him.

When you reach a buoy, you should see the next one in your radar (the flashing blip). Head towards it. And when you reach that one you should see the next one in the radar.

My favourite tactic for that mission is to just fly forward. The transport you're supposed to find happens to be directly in front of you when the mission starts. The buoys just make a small detour. I leave my wingmen on their own devices, ignore the Shivans, fly to snipes, call the transport and thats it.

Ask the Freespace Wiki (one of the links at the top of the page) about the railgun

They best way to beat that particular mission is to fly strait through the nebula. Don't worry about the shivans... "boost your engine power and try to keep up" (as quoted from the first Nebular mission's Zeta 1?). Take power from guns until you find Snipes. No real requirement to find Snipes, other then the fact that you get within range of him. Nav Buoys are just like going through the alleys of a gang-infested city... you're bound to get jumped. If you're unlucky, you'll get 2 Shivans following you, blasting at your rear shields until you messup and turn around to dogfight them. You get lost fast when dogfighting. If you have to kill em, stop at each buoy and be a 720-degree turret.

You're kidding, right? All of those weapons were given to you in Command Briefings.

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

I dont remember seeing them.  I think with some weapons, you have to complete those side missions in order to unlock them.  The most advanced weapon I remember gitting to was the maxim cannon

I doubt it with having to complete side missions first... command gives you a new weapon and/or fighter/bomber at least every time you transfer squadrons... You get some randomly or temporary; such as destroying the Ravana you're given Cyclopse and allowed to fly Ursa, Medusa, and my least favorite Boarcadia (i cant spell it sorry). A bit impromptu but still makes sense.
