Don't you know the admin password?  Or is it the IP you can't remember?

Apart from finding out the password (guessing common/default passwords, or asking someone who knows the pw, or if you set it yourself just remembering it out of the blue), I think your only option is to announce a bit of downtime, reset and re-configure the router.

That shouldn't be a problem if you're admin of said network. If you aren't, a question arises why you should need access to the router settings in the first place...

What kind of tasks are the PC's doing anyway that demands unfettered acces to Vega jump node Internet?
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

id still reset it, a smart person woulda backed up their router and could have it going again in all of 30 seconds.

Get a pen and a pencil and push in the two reset buttons that are likely at the back.  Hold for 10-15 seconds.  That should reset it back to factory.

He said expressly he'd rather not do that :P

Dude, if you've forgotten your admin password you're hooped, you have to factory reset.  If you've forgotten your login name - well, that router doesn't actually use a login name, so enter "admin" or the password in that field.

If you've forgotten the IP of the router to access it, run ipconfig on a computer connected to it.  The first three sets of numbers will match, the fourth set should just be .1 for the router (e.g. if the computer IP is 192.168.1.3, the router is probably 192.168.1.1).

The only thing you can't fix without a factory reset with that model is a forgotten password.  I've owned one for 3 years now.

Try UN: admin, PW: admin. That's what most people use on routers. (unless you know you set the PW to something different)

I know but its a point of diminishing returns...he can struggle trying to figure out something that probably isn't going to work like guess all the possible password configurations OR...reset the damn thing and set it up again.  I figure the set up would take less time :)

resetting takes 10 seconds.  your users probably wouldn't even notice any downtime.  hold the reset button at the back, as was advised, for about 10-12 seconds

I think we may have been duped by a spambot, first; he posts it in the wrong forum (check GenFS) second; he has never posted, third; the has numbers in his name (seemingly random), and fourth; he hasn't replied.
