Typing cheat codes when using a non-qwerty keyboard (especially given that FS2 only supports qwerty :|) isn't that easy either. Actually, I never managed to do it. So I don't cheat .

They should generalize this kind of anti-cheat system. Azerty keyboards FTW !

Untill now I never even heard of a azerty layout...
And thanks to Google+wikiedia I even know that it's a french layout. I can understand the difference between english and german layout because of the additional letters needed, but why did the french invent their own layout? It's not like they actually have any different letters in their alphabet. And why are the ( and ) keys so far apart?

Anyway FS1 and 2 support german layer keyboards just fine (apart from the additional ä, ö and ü keys and the differently placed symbold, z and y are switched around). Which means if you start an english version of fs with a german keyboard you'll have accelerate on z (which is between t and u). So typing in text works just fine.

QWERTY layout was chosen to be a good compromise between mechanical reliability on typewriters (Where letters that are rarely used after one another are placed close together to avoid jamming in mechanical typewriters) and ergonomics (To allow the typist to use two hands effectively). French, which has quite a different distribution of vowels and consonants than German or English requires a different layout for obvious reasons.

That is one freaky keyboard.But I dont think they have them in the U.S.Probably why ive never seen one.I dont see how not knowing something makes me a troll.But im not gonna keep pushing it.

I dont think theres any trainers out there for FS2(that work with FSO).That would be good for people who want to cheat but dont want to type.There is one or two for the retail version of FS2 but none that work with the open engine.

One time my mac keyboard decided to be German, and I never figured out why. Possibly because I was typing in German a lot? No idea.

Actually, the QWERTY layout was chosen completely at random. The only thing the creator thought about was that the characters needed to type the word 'typewriter' were in the top row, so he could type typewriter very quickly, to show how effective his system was.

On the subject of keyboards. My microsoft RAZR habu / reclusa combo doesn't bloody work. The backslash key is in the wrong place and still doesn't work. I.ill take a picture when I get home and upload it so you can see the crazy layout.  . . . . . . Or i'll just google the thing.

This reminds me of a sequence in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; Huck asks Jim what he'd think if he said parlez-vous français? (except phonetic-ish), and Jim says he'd slap him upside the head for talking gibberish. Huck tries to explain to Jim that that's how they talk in France, and Jim thinks it's ridiculous. He says something to the effect of "why don't they talk like a man?", meaning effectively "don't all humans speak English?", analogous to "aren't all keyboards U.S. standard layout?"
