Its occoured to me recently that since they put up the lengths of fighters on the selection screen, Freespace ships are possibly scaled to some extent (though i suspect there is a large degree of artistic license, to avoid ships too big to be in game etc). Supposedly the Orion carries a crew of 10'000, and i've always wondered how they all fit in the thing whilt still keeping room for fighters and the like.

So i was wondering if anyone happens to have any size comparison pictures lying around? I remember seeing one or two on the forum (one showing the TC2 compared to a man, and another showing the Orion compared to the Freedom Tower Project) but i can't find them with searches, and its something i'd be interested in looking at.

They're enormous. Ridiculously so. The Orion is kind of under-crewed for its size.

If I recall correctly a Fenris is about the length of a modern-day aircraft carrier.

We know for sure that the Colossus is 6 and the Orion 2 kilometers long (canon information from cutscene and techroom).
And the relative size between those two fits. In FRED a Colossus is as long as three Orions. At least if you count in that antenna or whatever it is, on the nose of the Colly.

The Aeolus is 272 m long, a Nimitz class CVN is just under 333 meters long. But since the A is a few dozen meters above the ground and it's taller than a CVN it may seem a bit bigger on the picture.

The MediaVP guys got go great pains to scale those guys close to real human sizes actually. The same doesn;t always apply to capship windows mind you.

Fenris is 253m, Triton freighter is 484, Deimos is 717m. Big Ben is 96m tall, roughly the length of a 107m Satis freighter. Someone with ModelView could actually do comparisons.
