Granted, the idea of having the scene actually displayed as a model rather than the static image + animations we have is cool, since we don't have translation support in animation control, it would be difficult to open the door. 
That would probably be better done using the
gr.drawModel scripting function, which does not require an actual ship. Draw the main model, draw one half of the door, draw the other half, etc., all without having to create a single ship.
However, previous conversations about a 3d mainhall indicate that mjn.mixael is primarily concerned with making 1024x768 pre-rendered mainhall art (although, if I understand correctly, he intends to release the 3d assets).
