Yo dawg, I herd you like building ships. So I built a station so you can build while you build.

Please do not complain about lack of pipes in the middle. This is something called a "Work in Progress", so some details may not be done yet.

I like it. But how does it resize itself based on what it's building or repairing?
And how will it stack up (no pun intended) in cases where mod's have stuck a Ganymede to, say, an Arcadia?

Otherwise, awesome work.

I don't think size will be a problem. Everything is pretty similarly sized. You can see below the original and mine overlapped. It's pretty bang on. The "biggest" worry would be new geometry connected to the docking arm.

Also this thing is very modular, you could just have 1 quarter or any number less than 5, but not including 5. (Warranty does not cover 5 Ganymedes docked!)

You mean, like, an iris that opens and closes depending on what it's repairing?

When a ship is inside the dock the pipes make it look like it was attached to them.

Actually they pumped it up with jelly :P

Great model!

Well, if there weren't pipes then the ship could just park right into the station for repairs in mission. I believe the pipe subsys can be destroyed to do the same efffect though.

  • The sky is the limit.
Great work.
Very detailed, yet close enough to the original not to break missions in which it has a lot of things attached to it.

Yeah, so for one without pipes you just destroy the subsystem and it completely dissapears.

I always thought they were soft cables, so that when a ship was parked in them, it looks like the cables went into the ship for various maintenance functions.

That's more or less what I tried to explain... in a better way actually... without the jelly and stuff... ... ;)

I always thought that the Ganymede's cables acted as a sort of Hoberman sphere. It can change its size depending on the ship it needs to fix and the stage of completion. For example, when building a new ship, it starts out small, and it expands up to a certain threshold. Hard to believe that you can use the same static device to be able to fix a Fenris and a Colossus. Might explain the cutscene too somewhat.
