Anyone using an Xbox 360 controller to play the game?
Just curious who else is going this route? I have a wired controller I use for games on my PC and prefer it to using keyboard/mouse (with certain games)

Right now I'm in the middle of configuring my profile to suit the 360 controller. I'd love some advice if anyone out there has a great layout.

Right now I'm thinking of putting the rolling to the shoulder pads, and using the right analog stick for thrusters... but I'm not totally sold on this just yet.
Is using the face buttons for cycling friendlies/enemies good?
I'm also thinking of using the dpad for something else rather than POV lookup, I don't see myself using POV a lot.

Here's how I'd lay out a 360 controller, based on how I have my joystick, plus what I reach over to the keyboard for the most.

Left Stick: Yaw/Pitch
Left Stick Clicker: Toggle Glide
Right Stick: Thrusters
Right Stick Clicker: Cycle Secondary Weapon
D-Pad Left/Right: Roll
D-Pad Up/Down: Throttle +/-
Right trigger: Fire Primary
Right Bumper: Fire Secondary
Left Trigger: Afterburner
Left Bumper: Deploy Countermeasure
ABXY Buttons: Target Nearest Hostile, Target Next, Target Bomb, Target Escort

Hrm... are thrusters a big part of the game? I ask because currently I don't really use them.

Left Stick - X/Y axis
Left Stick Button - Toggle Glide

Right Stick L/R - roll L/R
Right Stick U/D - Accel/Reverse (through use of xpadder)
Right Stick button - auto speed match

D pad - Hostile/Bomb/Escort/Sub targeting
Select - Target in reticle
Start - Target Friendly

ABXY - Afterburn/Top Speed/Full Stop/Countermeasure

Right Trigger - Primary
Right Bumper - cycle primary

Left Trigger - Secondary
Left Bumper - Cycle Secondary

Depends on your flying style. I mostly use them while gliding around a capital ship trying to keep a certain subsystem in view. And while landing, to really smash myself against the deck so I don't bounce off.

Re: Anyone using an Xbox 360 controller to play the game?
For Diaspora, they are, at least for me. Any "classic" FS2 mod can be played without them, but for more advanced flight models, they're the key to successful evasion. Kicking in roll and sidethrust at the same time will decrease your hit probability to almost zero, and with some skill, luck and a proper ship, you can even shoot and kill something when doing that (Heavy Raider is a nice ship for this, since it doesn't spin too fast and has six well centered, very fast and very damaging cannons with plenty of ammo). Not advised in most situations because of inaccuracy, but can get you out of a sticky situation if you know what you're doing. Not to mention that sidethrust helps with landings and strafing capships.

Both triggers don't seem to be detected and for some reason although the right analog's X axis is detected it can't work in game for me. Anyone else have this problem?

I believe this has to do with the age of the game and what it recognizes. In all my current games the triggers are identified but in a game this old, pre-dating analog triggers they come up as the 'acceleration' analog button. I had to use a controller profiler (Xpadder) and associate the left-ctrl and spacebar with primary & secondary fire.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have take your suggestions to heart and here's my layout:

Left Stick - move
Left Stick Button - toggle Glide

Right stick - Thrusters
Right Stick button - countermeasures

A/B/X/Y - target hostile/escort/bombers/auto target

LB & RB - roll

Dpad Left/Right - target subsystems/turrets
Dpad Up/Down - +/- 5% acceleration

Back button - I can't remember offhand, lol.
Start button - Nav point

Does anyone know how to use Diaspora with a 360 Gamepad on a Mac? I have installed the driver, and the launcher detects the Controller, however, i can't use it ingame... :(

Have you tried turning it off and on again binding the controls manually? You need to bind them manually before it'll work. Unless you tried that but the game won't recognize the inputs - that's another story.

I've just discovered this game and before I try it. Has anyone got a full Xpadder profile they could post please (thrusters and throttle/triggers etc)  I'd like to try out a couple if possible.
