Saw the whole thing in my head as I was falling asleep last night and posted impetuously. I realize that if the war had gone on for a couple of more months the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229 and her sister bomber would have won the world, but in an alternate timeline, the Allies could have kept up, given early enough intel. Both sides through their jet fighters would have jockeyed for the high ground('46-'47), coming to realize that Earth orbit was the goal. Rudimentary tracking satellites would have been launched to track V2 launches(now atomic - the heavy water experiments have born fruit), and they would have needed to be defended. The Germans were working on a rail system for orbital launch, the Allies would have had to match or answer it. Pushing the realm of the plausible I know but never underestimate the tenacity (or lethality) of the human mind. Anyway, just a thought.
