I've actually had that flag file issue on Macs before. I can't remember exactly how I fixed it. :(

Be sure to get the extra download (.7z file) mentioned in that first post. You can open it with Keka. Then move the bp-compat.vp file in it to your blueplanet folder and the bp2-compat.vp file in it to your blueplanet2 folder.

Great!! Downloading and installing all and using 6.17 (without BP) did the trick. No warnings anymore, and I even see the nice customized screen now. Thank you very much!

For some reason, the Windows BP compatibility builds have version number 3.6.17 SSE2, and I figured it was best to follow suit, so I went with 3.6.17 as the version number for the OS X builds.

Er, I'm not totally sure how to parse this, but if you're not using a BP build - if you've picked some other FSO build instead - you're going to hit a few problems later on.

:) I used the 6.17 provided at the patch site (that is what jg18 meant I ... think). So it is a BP build (i hope), but not marked as ".17 BP".
First encounter: ELITE. Later: X-Wing. The eclipse: FS2O. Ah, and a fan of post-apocalyptic Jugger in real life.

After my long hiatus here is the error log of my blue planet 2 issues (crashes immediately upon attempting to run, I have the bpcompat and bp2compat files in their respective folders and removed bp.adv from both folders already and have had no improvement with the situation). Thanks for taking a look at these for me guys.

1. You don't want to put Blue Planet in the default GOG install directory (I recommend you move your FS2 folder to C:\Games\FreeSpace2 or something like C:\FS2). There's something about long directories or being in Program Files that cause a boatload of problems with FS2_Open, last I read.

2. If you somehow continue to have problems, delete the the Advanced VP from your MediaVPs folder.

Thanks for the advice but even after moving the files out of my default fs2 folder I still have a crash immediately after I click run in the launcher.

Can you repost the fs2_open.log file? Preferably not as an attachment, but enclosed in [code][/code] tags. For some obscure reason, I get only a 404 when trying to download the attachments.

I'd move your FS2 install somewhere that is not Program Files, like C:\Games\Freespace 2.

If you have an Intel HD and you're going for the BP compatibility package, you might as well remove MV_Advanced.vp and MV_AnimGlows.vp from your MVPs, as those are also quite resource-intensive.

Thanks for the advice. After making those changes I'm encountering a little bit of a different situation. With the regular build it will simply crash upon clicking run in the launcher however in the debug build it will play the AoA opening movie after I click continue in the main hall. Once the movie reaches a certain point (I believe the point where the Orestes jumps in system), it will freeze and not generate a log or prompt me to ''yes to break into debugger, no to continue, cancel to exit''.

The log starts being generated as soon as the game starts with a debug build, so it will have generated a log nonetheless. Can you play until you hit the bug and provide the debug log you obtained after crashing ?
