Tactical Operations Group

The Tactical Operations Group, or TOG, was a special forces division of the GTAs' military forces during most of the the 14-year war. The TOG was often regarded as an adjunct of the GTI Special Operations division due to the high intelligence clearance of its commanders, although it remained under regular GTA fleet control.
TOG operations usually involved operating destroyers deep within enemy lines ahead of the regular fleet, acting as autonomous guerilla forces; this proved to be effective at disrupting Vasudan supply lines and sowing confusion within enemy ranks. Due to this, TOG units tended to be composed of a single Orion class destroyer, equipped with old-but-proven technology rather than newer but harder to service fighters like the Apollo.
A controversial unit due to its tactics, the TOGs' motto was "Redefining the Rules of Engagement", although it's political opponents claimed this amounted to justification of civillian collateral damage associated with military operations behind enemy lines, where civillian refugee transports often shared the same space as arms convoys. After a number of high profile, and controversial actions in the latter years of the Terra-Vasudan war led to severe political criticism, the TOG was officially disbanded; although its name and key personnel were carried over to the new elite Tactical Operations Group within the GTI, which performed ultra-high level covert actions.
The TOG can be regarded as the forerunner to the SOC.
