Black bars on fighters

I am running the 3.6.10 beta vps and with every single build I have tried I get black bars on at least the Herc 2 and Medusa. I would love to post a screen, but when I try I just get a screen of my desktop. It does this with both opengl and direct3d. If it helps I am running an 8800GT with the 169.25 drivers.

This has been raised in a couple of other threads. What was suggested there was either using 3.6.10 build or older nVidia drivers. I found that going back to a slightly older driver worked best. I'm on... ummm... I think 1.62 whql. One that came out late in 2007 and is available from the nVidia 2k/xp driver archive. It fixed the problem straight away though.

I hope that helps.

EDIT: The driver I'm using is "162.65_quadro_winxp2k_english_whql"

This seems to be nVidia ForceWare issues (along with chessboard pattern effects over textures):

Read http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50345.0.html (copy and paste, it's fools day and the link is FUBAR because administrators).

Before you test any new build, PLEASE test newest nvidia ForceWare 174.74. They seem to have fixed the issue with any kind of rendering in any kind of build. (I haven't been able to test myself yet: Vista-32bit + 8800GTX)
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES WITH FS2:
  • Please, please, please, READ and UNDERSTAND the sticky threads in FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open Support board.
    A lot of people are willing to help you, but, as anyone can understand, seeing the very same "issues" repeated again and again can become quite depressing. Please, spend a bit of time trying to solve the issue by yourself.
    (Lobo deserves a monument).
  • Then, if you aren't still able to solve your issue, feel free to ask for help in that same board.
    FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
    Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

Thanks I'll try these. I'll hold off on that 174.74 Forceware for now though. I beleive thats a beta driver. Another ID crisis, it seems I'm Colonol Dekker now. Hey Admins, go easy would ya? I get more on this day than anyone else, its my birthday so I get even more abuse.
