Mech Commander Gold Campaigns

(1/10) > >>

magic:
Installation instruction
- Download archive and unzip to the root of your C or D or E disk.
- Open the folder containing game files and browse down. You will see:
MCX.exe (original 640x480 resolution)
MCX1024x768.exe
MCX1440x900.exe
MCX1600x900.exe
MXC1920x1080.exe

I made 2 more executable files:
MCX1280x768.exe - Should be 100% OK, lowest wide resolution and mechs do not need to be stretched. Every mission should work without problems in this one.
MXC1280x1024.exe - ...for 4:3 monitors.

- Create shortcut to the exe of the resolution you want to start (or simply dbl click) and go.

Works fine under Windows 7 (x64), no compatibility mode needed.

FOR Windows 10 and Windows 8.x users:
1. Create shortcut to the exe of the resolution you want to start.
2. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" - Windows 95 or Windows 98.
(3. Check "Reduced color mode" - 256 color) - tried without this first.
4. Check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"
5. Check "Run this program as administrator"

I tried more resolutions, and most work fine for missions but not for logistics.

I recommend 1600x900 for normal play and 1920x1080 for zoom-in play.

Please note that higher resolutions mean more objects on screen - you may get random crushes for some missions. If the game crushes try the same mission in the same resolution again, if it crushes again please use smaller resolution for that mission and after you finish, return to higher resolution and continue.

So far crushes are mission specific...

Some monitors and graphic cards cant support 1600x900 resolution, if the game crushes on launch please try another resolution.

IMPORTANT: You will need MecCommander Gold image file:

Sarafan:
Hey, guys, I'm having a bit of a problem, I'm trying to download the 2nd campaign but so far have been unable to do so, either the speed is abysmal low (like 16-20 hours to dl) or the connection falls, I usually dont have these problems when downloading, maybe its filesonic the problem? Can anyone look into it, please?

edit: Ignore it, its fixed.

roldski:
Hi Mr. Magic, can't you post just the campaign files in order to avoid any legal problems. I have some of the campaign files wherein you need to manually install the missions and fit files into an original mcg installation(originally downloaded from DSC) but i'm not sure if those are the latest/last versions. Also, i thought that microsoft already released the source codes for the mechcommander games sometime around 2005 or 2006? Are you not allowed to modify them or create new campaigns? Sorry if i have too many questions. Thanks.

DireWolf:
Actually, MCG is freely available here at Shacknews. MC2 can also be found here too. This is all legal. Shacknews is owned by Gamefly, and files can only be uploaded by site administrators.

Edit: Mechcommander 2's source code was released, and there are no legal barriers against modding MC AFAIK (and definitely not MC2, since the source code was released)
