Title: 2004-05-03 Build
Post by: Kazan on May 03, 2004, 04:32:42 pm
Change by me: "mod stacking"

"-mod somemod" still works normally, however you can now use mod in a slightly more complex manner

Given Mod "HeatEmUp" that relies on mod "TBP" you can use them both at the same time by doing the following

"-mod HeatEmUp,TBP"

this works for theorectically an unlimited number of mods so you could have

"-mod ModC,ModB,ModA" No Spaces!

(bah.. it's not letting me post as an attachment.. five minutes pls)

This may be a dumb question but what would this be used for?

Like when you have things like lightspeeds stuff in one directory but want to play Inferno, you'd put -mod Lightspeed, Inferno?  That is, of course, if the folder where lightspeeds stuff is called Lightspeed and the same for Inferno.

Basically you've hit one possibility on the head there but the one I'd mentioned earlier is for satalite campaigns like Sol : A history or the various TBP add ons. If they use their own tables then something like this is needed to prevent a return to the bad old days of having to swap Data folders around and rename .vp files

Important: DO NOT PUT SPACES in the mod list

"-mod ModC,ModB,ModA" NO SPACES

Soon you won't be needing to use Lightspeed's stuff anymore ;)

Edit: I just learned how to use lvlshot tags! (all effects except thruster glows are my work (soon to change))

This sure isn't the place for shameless plugs.....
....even if it (hypothetically (sp?)) would be the case.

That looks messy :wtf:

The beam itself looks nice tho (glow = *shudders*).

But I looks like this the whole time...
Thats why I haven't created new beams.

And what's  with your attitude ?
LS used much of his free-time to create these effects.
I don't think he deserves this.

What? Is it trendy to be shivan now? Carl's one so everyone is one now?

Can we get back to this build?

Kazan, does this fix any other bugs?

sorry for derailing the thread people.  I was .... being odd then

Edit: and i was relating it to using Lightspeed's stuff for Inferno, not in general.  (sorry LS)

Wow, I'm really apologetic today

I don't think a little friendly rivalry between LS and Turambar will hurt the community any :D

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! :D

About the glows and stuff...I've noticed they're sprites that, when they intersect with the mesh, form a hideous effect (i.e. glow clipping like the drive glows in Turambar's screenie there).  Is that even fixable at this juncture, or is it going to be a post-3.6 thing?

heh, I was just going to comment on the last build and suddenly we have a new one. :D Anyway, this build seems to be excellent with the memory usage, with the memory usage around 50mb at all times, although for some reason I can't get all of Lightspeed's nebulas to show up (only the first few are displayed according to their position in stars.tbl). Maybe it's another memory thing? These comments all apply to the 4-26 version as well.

Also, Goober, you emailed me a few weeks ago about this bug (http://mgo.maxgaming.net/mantis/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000082&nbn=2#bugnotes) and I sent a response but didn't get anything further. Were you able to find out what was causing the trouble? I am wondering if this thing might be related to memory problems in some way, which might explain the weird randomness I was getting.

I haven't had a chance since then.  I should be freer in a week or so.

Do the sub mod folders have to be within the main folder?
ie. data/inferno/SAH

Ehh, I've been called shivan a long time ago, long before I regged on HLP. This goes back to my days of active PXO gaming.

This is probably pointless and old, but I tried this build yesterday and I didn't get the intro movie when I started up.  I have the zpack.exe media file thats out, if that matters.

Oh, forgot to mention that I tried playing with OpenGL but the mainhall was really dark.  When I tried to play a mission, it would begin to load but when it got to the last little light in the loading screen it would just completely freeze.

One question with this; in what order do file precedences work across different directories? For example, if I have one directory containing the media vps and another containing my PI files, can I make it read stuff from both places but if the same file occurs in both directories, use the version from the PI directory?
Title: 2004-05-03 Build
Post by: Kazan on May 18, 2004, 05:24:50 pm
in order listed

"-mod ModA,ModB,ModC"

Precendence:
ModA
ModB
ModC
Fs2Dir
CDrom

(in each folder VPs come after files - ie ModA Files, ModA VPs, ModB Files... )

ah, that's good. But if VPs come before files, shouldn't your list go the other way, or is that supposed to read files before VPs?
Title: 2004-05-03 Build
Post by: Kazan on May 18, 2004, 06:00:06 pm
files are read BEFORE vps
