Great pictures. Carl fits perfectly in my ship's hangar. In hindsight, we should have put a Blacktron minifig or two somewhere around him.

There have been some squid-like sets released with those pieces, like the Ogel subs in the Alpha Team line.

That generic three-wing shape is used in many places, but you're right. It was attracting a lot of attention in the space area due to its height, which made it noticeable from a distance.

Ooooooooooooh $50 USD is definitely a possibility for me once the exchange rate is fixed after this recession. The aussie dollar sucks at the moment, which really isnt fun when you do a lot of shopping on eBay.
And i seem to remember reading in another thread regarding Carl that there was delay in the chain...which was a possibly so he could be painted?

The writing is hard to make out, but the display tag reads "Portable Supernova".

It's a robot that scoops up plastic balls and delivers them somewhere. The balls are collected in the front, a rotating "combine harvester" thing pushes them onto the platform in the back, and then the platform raises them up and dumps them over the top.

Upload, id love to see them. Many of the nice ass renders V made, and had on their site, i never got a chance to download. I have only seen what few are left on that 'web archive' site.

I never knew this thread existed. Now I know what Goober looks like. Also, I never knew that they made Shivan models (like toys). Or maybe the FS community did. I'll read a little more to get the facts. That means that perhaps Freespace is more well known than I original thought or it is a good way to make it more well known.
That's not a mass-produced toy, you can send 3D models to companies, and they cut them using a computerized laser.

A 3D mouse can go up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards, and also tilt and twist in any direction.

The first pic was from GenCon last August...the other three were take in the last 15 minutes or so. The acetone thing didn't work nearly as well as I hoped, but the Loctite Plastic Epoxy did the trick, as you can see he's structurally sound enough to support an HTC Tilt, no small feet (feat? get it? Cause he's small).

Luckily due the texture, my less than perfect glue job is relatively unnoticeable without close scrutinization. And yeah, when I came up with 'armlegs' and those other captions, it was getting really late at night :P

It looks like watsisname is going to be unavailable this summer, which means it will have to go to HLP London before him. But since HLP London isn't until August, we probably have time for one or two people to exchange Carl before then. :) Anyone interested?

I really would have had it dealt with sooner, but I couldn't get the acetone to bond the legs, and the walmart nearby was out of plastic epoxy (specifically for ABS and the like) every damn time I visited. I was pretty frustrated with that whole situation.

Actually it might be cheaper for me to get a model rip and get somebody to print it out for me and then try to paint it myself.

In a box in my garage ready to be shipped, had him way too long, I know. I'm bad about getting to post office. Had to repair him when I received him, then had to make sure I had him packaged so he wouldn't break again, then confused about who still wanted him next, then got about shipping. But I actually do want this responsibility gone if you're the next in line interested party. Just keep forgetting to ask when I remember he's in my garage.

Does he have a warm blanket to keep him warm in your garage? Maybe some books too? Wouldn't want him blowing up the sun due to boredom.

I always intended to 3D print the zod model I have in the spirit of Carl.... I should do that.
EDIT: Checked a few online sites for 3D printing.. would be about $200 for printing the zod at Sculpteo. :(

Well, watsisname is next in line. I PMmed him to see if he still wants Carl and to see if his address is still current.
I also PMmed chief1983, who has Carl currently. At least Carl is still accounted-for and hasn't hopped on a spaceship to somewhere.

I have a 3D printer that prints carbon fiber PLA at 100 microns. If someone has the 3D model I'll give it a shot.

I didn't. Watsisname hasn't been active since December 2016, and I guess he doesn't get PM notifications via email.
Hippo is next in line, so I've sent him a PM. After Hippo, the daisy chain concludes. Anyone else want to donate towards the HLP Carl fundraiser? All contributions go directly to the server fund; none of the staff get a cut.

Site donations and HLP Carl donations are treated the same way for operating cost purposes; the only difference is that HLP Carl donations add the user to the HLP Carl exchange list.

Carl is no longer in my possession. USPS confirms delivery to the address I received from Goober for Hippo, I hope he arrived in one piece. Not sure if anyone else has made the contribution yet to be added to the list for Hippo to mail him on. Also looking forward to pics from Hippo of Carl in his new location.

I had been donating (without the Carl note in Paypal)... I resumed my donation after it oddly got cancelled by Paypal. I'd like to be put on the Carl list. :)
