Title: Oh no! Not another Nightmare Scenario thread!
Post by: Kryten on December 06, 2013, 04:52:33 pm
Yes, it's one of these. But I've got a funny situation that (I don't think) has been covered in any of the previous topics that I could find.

I don't have CTDs, I don't have error windows, all that happens when I start the mission is that the screen is black, save for a minimal HUD. I can target some ships, but this is moot because I can't actually ~see~ them. or anything else outside for that matter. If I press the afterburner button, the screen flashes white for however long the afterburner is active. I don't take any damage (so it's not like the game registers that I'm in a docking bay or anything) and I can't fire primary or secondary weapons. The mouse and joystick are unresponsive.

I'm running an unmodified TBP install from the ISO downloads available on the main page. I'm not running Zathras.

Here's the other stuff about my system.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU         920  @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 12288MB RAM
ATI HD7800

I have checked the following threads and unless I missed something (and this is a very likely scenario as I don't claim to be the most observant creature in the 'verse) I think my problem is unique.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Have you tried replaying the campaign up to that point with a new pilot file? - What you describe sounds much like a "red-alert"-Bug that comes up when parts of the pilot file(s) are incorrectly loaded and/or saved

Running in debug mode per the instructions provided caused the program to crash to desktop after the initial mission briefing (the "show them no mercy" dialogue).

It did, however, generate a log file, which can be viewed here:

I did as you suggested and that solved the problem. Thanks!
